UV Sterilizer vs Autoclave

While autoclaves don't leave vials that wet,
even a little water condensation can make oil based formulations cloudy.
Sterile filtered 70% alcohol is a great and cheap way to ensure vials are bone dry.

Baking in oven doesn't work, as ovens aren't sterile
and they usually wrap vials in Aluminum foil that prevents hot air from getting in.
So when dental offices and what not use an autoclave that is both steam and heat, those are not really sterilizing their instruments?

Of course they achieve proper sterility

but a little moisture doesn't really matter in dentistry, as the instruments will soon contact water-containing saliva in the next patient.

But that little moisture will show in oil based injectables.

So a steam and dry heat clave is most ideal.

Awesome thread.
Couldn’t you use a pressure cooker like they do for glassware when they grow mushrooms?
Use the filtered alcohol to remove any moisture afterwards?
My apologies if my newb status shines thru in my post.
Regardless this is an interesting thread.

I’ve seen claves that are nothing more than pressure cookers. I’m just looking for ease, so it seems I would be looking for a steam clave with dry heat as well.

You realize that people use aluminum foil all the time on food, which helps it cook, right? And being that it is metal, it conducts heat. Top it off with being thin metal, it heats up faster. And you’re saying wrapping something in aluminum foil in a hot oven prevents hot air from getting in?

Nice crop. Can smell it from boston!
Appreciate it!
It’s cookie Glue.
GG4 x GSC
Which is Gorilla Glue 4 crosses with Girl Scout cookies!
Had a few friends from Boston that dabble. Pretty sure you got Medical mj in that state. That’s how you grow legally.
Get a mj card and grow your own.

Overkill IMO
A steam autoclave works fine
then you can dry them with either
A. Sterile filtered 70% alcohol
B. By QUICKLY placing them near a burner flame (with some long tweezers)

Pressure cookers don't reach the 15-17 psi pressures, or 250 degrees F (121 deg C) needed for proper sterilization.
Pressure cookers don't have manometers, thermometers or bleed off valves like proper autoclaves do.

They look roughly similar, but have have some important differences, please read above.

That's correct
hot Oxygen (from air) is what degrades bacteria and viruses in dry heat sterilization, not just heat alone.
