Cloudy brew

Anyone get cloudy brew in the media bottle after using disposable vaccume filtration systems?
The brew is crystal clear in the cup, until it gets filtered. I was thinking maybe air in the brew, but its not going away.

? I usually use watman syringe filters and it comes out clear. First time using a bottletop vaccume filter.

Upon further research, it looks like a common thing when using nylon filters. Even though they are semi resistant to BA, they still degrade and give a cloudy finished appearance. Back to pvdf.

Are you gonna re-filter the cloudy stuff or do you plan on tossing it?

Going to mix it with burbon and drink it.

I wouldn't feel comfortable pinning something that has absorbed the nylon from those filters. BA is a powerful solvent and regardless of whether or not you refilter it there will still most likely be trace amounts of the contaminant in solution. But yeah the burbon idea sounds like a good one.

Meh. A little bit of nylon never hurt anyone I think we all have chunks of rubber stopper in us anyway. Refilter with a pvdf filter should take the cloudyness out and should be fine.

I think you're right about the rubber stopper for sure lol. I've thought about that myself many times

Had the same problem even after filtering it twice. I was using MCT oil which has a high water content at least the brand I was using had it. Went back to GSO and problem solved.

Hmm. Strange. Ive never had issues with water or cloudyness with mct. Using the same as I used last time so I know the carrier is not the issue. Only changed variable is the nylon filter, and its a known problem with solvents. Ill run some of the contaminants though a pvfd watman and see if it clears.

I used a pvfd and mine came out like that too.

It's water. Doc was the one that helped me figure that one out. And some MCT oils will have a lesser amount of H20 than others. Try GSO.

As I said... Its not water. I have used the SAME EXACT CARRIER with pvdf filters and it came out Crystal clear. I refiltered the nylon filtered oil with a pvdf and once again, it came out Crystal clear. Nylon was the culprit, not water, and not the carrier.

Cool. A year or so ago I never bumped into these problems...well not really a problem but bugs that need to be worked out. I must be getting rusty with age.lol

Can anyone else confirm that the cloudiness was most likely due to the nylon degrading ? I’ve got the same problem. I really hate to throw it out if I can actually get the cloudiness out with a PVDF.

Filter membrane breakdown will leave particles in your oil. I've never seen it turn oil 'cloudy' (outside of a membrane completely tearing and allowing moisture filled oil to pass through). Moisture turns oil cloudy. Nylon can handle pretty much anything you throw at it unless you're using a shitload of BA or something like that. What my guess is, regarding the orginal part of this thread, is that a hydrophobic pvdf filter was used to correct the issue. Hydrophobic is designed to pull moisture out of the oil as you filter.

Ahh okay thank you. Any ideas on why mine got murky once it went through the filter ? It was perfect when it started filtering and when I came back it was foggy and almost had a pink tinge to it. I even used the plastic receiver the nalgenes come with
