I have had a brand of bottle top filters that were made of polysterate plastic and I could only run 200ml through it before the plastic would begin to become sticky due to breakdown from the time the solvents and oils were in contact with the filter funnel. At times the brew would be cloudy if I tried to use it for longer periods of time and I would have to refilter it to clear it up. The nylon membrane never gave any problems. I have since started using filters made with polypropylene funnels and nylon membranes and haven’t had any more problems.

Yes it is. They were Corning filters
I think I would have rathered them to leak.
@ickyrica no just room temp. I just got home after letting it sit overnight and noticed a red tint every time the oil drips. I think @Iron Vett is right. It melted the plastic. Sucks because I two-dayed 2 more filters thinking I was the problem.
What brand? Is it Corning?
No it’s a red Nalgene nylon. The red hardcore bled through last night. Normal BB. 50/50 split eo and mct. Tried another filter (same kind) thinking maybe the first one was flawed but thag doesn’t appear to be the case.

The problem was 100% the plastic melting. The entire inside is super tacky and it actually fused the receiver to the plastic bowl I had it sitting in. Why isn’t everyone’s plastic melting ??
Where did you get the solvents from?
My solvents are all from med lab supply and the brews degrading the filters were all 18%BB or less

I’m pretty sure it has something to do with the polysterate being used for the funnels. Polypropylene works fine.
Was just looking that up, the actual differences in the plastic being used to support the filter and oil. I remember reading a few times that guys would have a filter clog up and they couldn't run the full 250ml or 500ml through it, leading them to having to run a fraction of the advertised amount through a filter. All I can think is something like that is happening in those cases as well, clogging the fuck out of the filter.

In all the years of homebrewing i never had a issue neverrrrr..im interested in how u brewed ur gear...did i use boiling water to speed up the process? Just curious?
