was looking into a good Intra workout supplement, but then decided I didn’t want to pay 40 usd for 750 grams of sugar, so I guess I’m gonna make my own.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

You might look into mansport eaa. It’s actually pretty legit.

But a good intra would be just buy some eaa in bulk....30g carbs....Creatine. That’s it my man.

Dextrose + EAA's.

This is pretty much as good as it gets for recovery, fancier / more expensive carbs offer little benefit over dextrose except when it comes to maybe keeping blood sugar more stable, although I have feeling dextrose will prove to be better in the end.

You can get dextrose at bulk barn, it's called 'corn sugar".

Bulk Barn - Corn Sugar

EAA's can't be bought locally 99% of the time, order them online. Mix the two and your set.

This is the perfect combination for intra-workout recovery drinks.

I was looking at true nutritions website and there is an option to ad electrolites ( among a lot of other things) is it worth it?

Just an FYI on true nutrition EAAs, they have a warning that the unflavored variety is very bitter.

They are not exaggerating. It is gag inducing if you don't flavor it somehow

I would say yes, but I prefer adding my own electrolytes, Himalayan pink salts with potassium (Mortons salt substitute), a bit more potassium than sodium and I tend to look a bit freakier during training.

Truthfully if you own either of these products (potassium and pink salt) you can add your own electrolytes.

I use table salt, a bit of apple cider, a bit of cider vinegar, little white sugar, little maple syrup. Plus creatine and eaa

When it comes to dextrose, is there a specific juice/fruit that provides comparable amounts to the refined powder?

Like grape juice, OJ etc

Mine has just been a 32oz Gatorade and 10g of EAAs. HBCD would be the preferred supp, but it gets expensive quick (for me at least).

I’m going to try Gatorade for a couple of days to see if in makes a difference, if it does I’ll order dextrose from true nutrition because it will definitely be cheaper in the long run, and for extra 50 cents Canadian, you can add EAAs, and for 50 more electrolites, so I think it’s a good deal

If you're just looking for carbs, go old school and rock the kool-aid or a bit of honey.

I'd prolly go the honey route though.

Apple cider has a lot of minerals and other good things but also sugar. Cider vinegar has all of those good things but the sugar has been changed to acetic acid. So I get the goodies without more sugar

If I had to rank which carb source is best for this purpose in order:

Fruit Juices (least ideal option) > Gatorade (good) > Dextrose (best)

Situational:

Highly Branched Cyclic Dextrin (depending on how stable blood sugar stays with dextrose, most people will be fine. only use a product that has been tested)

Don't bother with:

Waxy Maize (meh, dextrose is better and keeps you more stable in the end), Maltodextrin (gross)

EAA's over BCAA's, always.

Two packets of crystal light lemonade, pink lemonade, or cherry pomegranate with 10 g of their EAAs is delicious. And so cheap.
