I have a friend that just got put on it and its working great for him.

I normally don't need this kinda thing but im running a heavy cycle for a PL meet and just need a bump in my mood.

Horrible idea. SSRI medications- especially with the shit abilify has in it- are NOT pick me ups. Smoke a fucking joint. Shoot some heroin if that doesn't work. Taking meds like that because your cycle has you depressed? Find a new hobby.

Did I read that wrong, did you just say to take heroine but don't take meds? Or did you mean taking meds would be as bad a choice as using heroine?

You'll feel a lot worse before you feel any better taking an SSRI.

I'd imagine it was a way to describe just how bad my man thinks the idea is, not that heroin would be an acceptable alternative. But I don't want to put words in his mouth, brutus scares me...

I think just need to drop a thing or 2 from my cycle...
My wife is a nurse and always tries to throw a pill at everything. I'm generally resistant to such things, I think shes rubbing off a little lol.

FYI, Abilify isn't an antidepressant. It's an atypical antipsychotic that is sometimes used to augment antidepressants in patients with treatment resistant depression. It's not used as monotherapy for depression.

Abilify isnt an ISSR but a second generation neuroleptic with pecular agonist-antagonist D2 properties, and has very low risk of inducing tardive dyskinesia

The risk of akathisia is over 20% and it will do nothing for your mood

FYI, Abilify isn't an antidepressant. It's an atypical antipsychotic that is sometimes used to augment antidepressants in patients with treatment resistant depression. It's not used as monotherapy for depression.

Main uses are for schizophrenia and type I bipolar disporder, augmenting an SSRI with aripiprazole for an MDD is actually a pretty bad idea even tho its FDA approved for some reason

its also FDA approved for acute agitation but no one with their right mind would prescribe IM aripiprazole for this
Just goes to show how good some labs are in pushing FDA, but i digress

I wouldn't say it's a bad idea. The evidence for it's efficacy as an adjunct to antidepressants in refractory depression is pretty strong and it's prescribed frequently for that purpose. It's still a bad choice for the OP.

Yeah i m well aware of that but there are still numerous reason why i d resort to several other agents before prescribing abilify in that context, but thats not on topic : P
