Who else is on antidepressants

Ever notice how awhile back it was said that people were overly anxious when benzos were newer? Now that it’s apparent benzos are no good for long term use now we are all overly depressed now that antidepressants are big. Not saying people don’t have issues with anxiety or depression, I have these issues off and on, but these pharmaceutical companies are pushing this crap to make $.

I heard like 40 years ago herpes wasn’t a big deal, but as soon as those legal drug dealers came out with meds it became a huge taboo thing, why to line the drug dealers pockets with $.

I’m sure a lot of people benefit from antidepressants but I’m willing to bet a lot of people with depression or mental health issues would benefit more from non-drug therapy. I had a germ ocd thing, dr pushed antidepressants, didn’t do jack other than shut down libido, a picked up a $20 book on exposure therapy which help to get rid of my germ issues for the most part.

First line treatement for a lot of psychiatric disorder is CBT ( which includes exposure therapy )

For some patients unfortunately psycho therapy alone wont be enough

Also, MDD prevalence has been stable for years

Definitely agree that medication is helpful for many, it’s just in my own personal experience drs push pills on you after the first appointment. At least in the bigger clinics, the drs with their own practices are more likely to try and help instead of writing a prescription after 20 min.

Although there was a dr with his own practice who was popular with the drug addicts cause he was the go to for benzos, amphetamines etc. he’d give you 90-120 2mg Xanax after the 1st app lol

Just like with any treatments, what works for some may not work for others. I have plenty of combat related issues I dealt with myself although my sleep was pure shit. The VA started me on different meds and would switch them when the sides were unbearable. Needless to say antidepressants took me down a rabbit hole that I wish on no one.

Yea man I didn’t like the couple months I was on antidepressants, pos dr told me to taper but didn’t even warn me of withdrawals if I quit cold turkey when I told him I want out. Went thru unique withdrawals lol. Many do benefit but I’m sure a lot of depression like what I’ve experienced can be corrected with some lifestyle changes.

I tend to overthink a ton of shit so anxiety is one of my weakness. If you overthink tasks and are meticulous you can use that to your advantage. However, here I am with no sleep at night because I ran out of meds to help me sleep. I’ll get right one day

Depression sucks been there and tried many meds long ago during rough times in marriage. Couldn’t find any that worked for me. Eventually dropped all of them and stayed busy and active. A body in motion stays in motion. Stay busy and get lots of sun. Stay away from gloomy weather. Surround yourself with positive people and don’t miss gym day. Good luck to all that suffer from depression its a bad disease but it can be defeated.

Messed with Wellbutrin for a minute years ago. I'd been given a whole case of samples by my GP, wound up just selling it all though. Never did like the pharma stuff.

Specially being a poor kid after finding out I could sell it.

Honestly the only shit that does it for me is exercise, structure, and a good dose of leave me the fuck alone time every day.

Big pharma lies and sell conflict not truth. Drugs only take you deeper into hell and are not a solution. There’s zero proof they work plus side effects are suicidal thoughts....really? Forgiveness is a start, let go of anger and return to the father. Do what you want the choice is yours. I’m not a doctor but this has been my experience.

^^^this^^^ was guinea pigged through adolescence on meds.... All types. Did more harm than good. Everyone wanted to tell me about my "chemical imbalance". Some of us have been through terrible things. There's nothing "wrong" with you, we need to learn to cope. Stay busy, find someone to talk to. Let yourself love/be loved. Alone time is good but don't be a recluse, it'll only make things worse. People will disappoint you but you don't have to disappoint yourself.

50mg a day of Zoloft for the past year and a half for anxiety disorder (PTSD) with Xanax when shit gets rough. I have night terrors that shake me for a few days at a time. I had 11 years as a first responder and some shit never completely leaves, it seems to disapear and suddenly resurfaces.

To the OP. You need to go see your Doc fucking ASAP!!
Xanax for the rough times, calms and you kinda forget a bit. Careful with that shit tho. Sometimes only way I can sleep, along with a stiff drink. My heart goes out to you. PTSD is real, and so misunderstood.
