What do you think of running to shed weight

I shed a lot of weight running when I was boxing. It seems like the only thing that keeps me cut. I tried the step climber, elliptical, walking incline, nothing compares to a 3 mile run a couple times. Week to keep lean. The only thing is, it seems mine it diminishes strength a tad. What’s your take on running. I’m not talking about marathon, but running to keep in shape. What’s your take...

I don't care for running. It's high impact and seems to negatively affect my strength.

I prefer the water rower or bike. They're lower impact and have a lot of carryover toward general strength and conditioning. You get the intense cardio without beating the shit out of your joints.

Do what works for you. Running can be hard on your body, as opposed to some gym cardio equipment, but it's easier to do cardio that you enjoy. You just have to find the balance dependent on your gym goals.

Just to clarify, I do no cardio, but do HIIT style training to compensate.

I ride my mountain bike. Sometimes I take it easy and sometimes I'll try go as fast as I can for 10mi. Breaks up the monotony and I enjoy the scenery.

I think you should do whatever cardio you find the most enjoyable. You don't want to just do something just because you are supposed to do it. Where is the fun? Live life!

*Disclaimer, we have to do a lot of things that are not fun. But cardio and the exercises in the gym shouldn't be a chore.

Yeah.. it does negatively effect the joints. I think I need to reduce carbs. figures... well. Time to ditch running..

Trail running kicks ass. I like to put on a water pack and hit the trails. Something about being in the woods and the changing terrain takes the monotony out of it. I don't do it as often as I'd like, but I enjoy it when I do. I need to find some good HIIT routines. They say that high intensity has more benefits.

I am sorry but on a treadmill in the back corner of the gym with all the gym bunnies in yoga pants is a better view. Well, at least on tren.

No tren, I prefer walking on the beach :)

Do the gym bunnies give you funny looks while your gasping for air on tren?:)
