Any house painters out there?

I finished up around the front door and it actually turned out pretty good. Still have some clean up to do but it wasn't so bad.
Takes time to get good at it for sure.
Believe it or not I’m actually real good at painting. I free hand everything and my cuts are better than spending time taping. Guess I’m good for something lol

I've read that you don't have to prime when painting over flat paint. What are your thoughts?

Professional painters generally don't prime over existing paint. I myself do painting professionally but I only do it now and then. I'm basically a handyman and I manage rental properties and have done complete remodel jobs on rooms from floor to ceiling and can also do a lot of electrical wiring.
As long as you buy a good quality paint you should be good to go. I would suggest buy the best quality paint you can afford and buy one with primer added into the paint. I would only buff out (sand) high gloss paint. So anything else (semigloss, eggshell, satin and matte) i'd paint over.
I take it you're painting the exterior of your home? If that's the case, it's always a good idea to power-wash every surface that is going to be painted. Regardless, primer or good quality paint isn't going to stick well if the surface isn't squeaky clean. You can rent power washers from Home Depot or look for a tool rental hardware store in your area. If you've already painted don't fret about not having power washed. But the good thing about power washing is that the strong force of the water from the washing will rip off any loose old paint that would otherwise not be a good surface to apply new fresh paint.
Good luck. Hope it's going well.

Why sand high gloss?

And when I say sand high gloss you only want to buff out the surface so it's not shiny. Even using steel wool can help with this. Remember, you're not sanding off the paint. You're just breaking down the surface of the high gloss so the new paint has a better surface to adhere to.

I see what you mean

I just did the inside of the house and I used this amazing product that was flat and had wheels that made the perfect straight line between the ceiling and the wall. The taping bled to much for my liking. But it was a brush with 2 wheels so you never actually can hit the ceiling while painting the wall.

everything else I free hand or you can get a long spackel knife and place it where you need a straight line. Where the two colors meet.
