Nice thats a good size. Bet it took a bit to real in.Went out with my buddies last night and caught a couple big channel catfish. The salmon have also started hitting pretty good and coming up the rivers to spawn, though I haven't targeted them yet this season. I can't wait until the steelhead start hitting. So do we have any avid fisherman at Meso?

I didn't weigh it but it was about 15 lbs. We have a pretty nice area to fish. The cats average around 10-12 lbs. My biggest was about a 20 lb last year.Nice thats a good size. Bet it took a bit to real in.
Catch and use those sunfish and small carp whole as bait. Bet you pr on catfish. There's also large mouth bass, crappie, sunfish and carp as well as couple other types of cats. I'm blessed with some good fishing in my area.
That is strangly interestingI do really well making this shit we call firedog's. Hotdogs cut into about 1 inch pieces with raspberry jello. Then I spray some Bang garlic spray once it's on the hook. Then I fucking slay.
It works well. But I think I could probably hook a piece of dogshit on there and give it a squirt of the garlic spray and probably do just as well...but I think I'll stick with hotdogs. That is strangly interesting
Do love a bit of sea fishing. Done a fair bit of fly fishing with my brother and dad over the years, but really like the bigger fights you can get off a boat.Went out with my buddies last night and caught a couple big channel catfish. Proceed with spraying the dog with WD-40
I'm not sure how the hotdogs would work in the ocean, but the catfish sure like them. A 36 inch striper is a nice fish, for sure. I've not done a ton of ocean fishing myself, but when I was younger, we used to fish for bat ray's and sharks in the bay. We would use calamari for bait. One night, my little sister reeled in a bat ray that weighed more than her. It had to be 100 lbs or better.Funny you guys mention this... I bought a fish attractant spray a few years ago that I've used here and there, I have to say.. I tend to get more hits when I use it. I caught a 36” striper with it a few years ago off the surf in VA. If I had to describe the smell of it, it's kind of a garlicky WD-40. I like the jello idea too, you could put some garlic right into the jello I guess. Never used hot dogs but I think I'll try that, the biggest problem I've had with surf fishing is keeping the bait on long enough for a fish to strike.. the crabs are relentless.
My buddy makes his own recipe for the firedog's. He uses jello along with garlic powder, parmesan cheese, and maybe another ingredient or two that I'm forgetting. He gets pissed off that I usually do better using my garlic spray but he's too hard headed to use it himself. He still catches fish and is one of the best steelhead fishermen I know, but I kick his ass on the catfishing.Funny you guys mention this... I've never tried fly fishing yet but my buddies were just up recently hitting some mountain rainbow trout and I believe some redbands. They got a dozen or so little ones and then finally landed a nice 2-3 pound rainbow. He is still pretty green to fly fishing but is an amazing steelhead fisherman. He could get paid pretty good money to be a guide up here but chooses to just take his friends out instead. He has a badass drift boat that we sometimes utilize. For me to get to the good salmon and steelhead fishing is a couple hour drive, but we have some awesome areas that generally have lots of nice, big fish.Do love a bit of sea fishing. Wow thats a nice catch. Surfcasting in waders is my go to as of now. Makes a world of difference when you go knee- waste deep to get over all the seaweed.Funny you guys mention this... Ah man you should definitely give it a go, it's super cathartic and a nice way to chill and enjoy nature.
