I chartered Filtering problem

I tried filtering 150ml of Test Prop last night. 60 ml syringe like always. 25 mm pvdf .22 pore size. Whatman syringe filter into sterile viles. And you would think the new syringe filter is old because it it like clogged. I vented like always. I took the syringe out of the vial and got the caulk gun and still wouldn’t go through. I pressed harder and eventually the filter just popped off. I never encountered this prob ever since fina kits in the early 2000s. I haven’t brewed in over 2 yrs so could there be something I’m forgetting? BTW it’s cottonseed oil. I got a different syringe and filter and tried putting plain cottonseed oil through the filter and again just to see if something could be wrong with the test prop powder but again same problem. Anybody know what could be going wrong? Thanks and I appreciate any and all answers.

Never filtered CSO but I’m guessing it’s pretty thick? Have you tried to filter it after brewing while the solution is hot to the touch but able to be picked up without burning yourself? Filtering while warm is typically easier.

what kind of CSO are you using? Is it pre-filtered? That could potentially help also.

While it was not as hot as usual when I filter. It was warm and I would guess it would be a little harder to filter than usual but it wouldn’t go through at all. You would think there was vegetable shortening going through the filter. I wouldn’t think the oil being slightly cooler would cause it to not filter at all. I filtered oil before at same temperature. And the oil is USP as always. I used Grapeseed before as well as sesame and mct oil before. Haven’t used EO yet because I brew for my gym friends as well and I know couple dudes that got rashes before from the designer carriers and super solvents.

Are you using proper amount of bb or other solvent? Are you filtering when the oil is warm? You could try pre filtering with .45 filters. So you used luer slip tip on the infeed side? Could you clarify "popped off"? Pvdf is what I use but it is questionable what it can handle solvent wise and what not. I haven't had any problems with em so I say fuck it haha. I've heard more refined oils are better to be used in homebrew. Might want to look into that as well. I used refined gso this last run I brew so seldomly Idk if there was a huge difference

I have two questions
1. Is the brewed oil clear?
2. Expiration date for the oil?

Not to sound like a smart ass, but do you have the filter on the right way? Those syringe filters are usually luer lock threaded on one side and slip tip on the other. Luer lock goes on the barrel, the needle goes on the slip tip side.

I second this. if I understand you correctly, for the filter to pop off, the pressurized side would have to be the slip tip side which should be under the filter not above... if it was on correctly, the filter would bust but not pop completely off.

The only problem with this theory is that there is a female on the top of the filter to insert the syringe into and a male tip on the discharge side of the filter for the needle to attach to. I’m not sure how, or if, a syringe filter can be put on and used backwards

Ima try it out when I get home lol

Got new oil and it’s filtering fine now. Threw that batch out. Used so much it came out of caulk gun and broke tip off. Lucky used test prop to filter first than drostanalone prop or that would have been expensive. As it turns out only wasted 20g Test Prop. Thanks guys for help, reply’s

Glad you figured it out (I think you figured it out) and just for the furtherment of knowledge... you can NOT put on a string filter backwards.

Fuck me. I’m glad I don’t get the female/male thing mixed up too often!
