Postal Service Covert Internet Operations Program

When contacted by Yahoo News, civil liberties experts expressed alarm at the post office’s surveillance program. “It’s a mystery,” said University of Chicago law professor Geoffrey Stone, whom President Barack Obama appointed to review the National Security Agency’s bulk data collection in the wake of the Edward Snowden leaks. “I don’t understand why the government would go to the Postal Service for examining the internet for security issues.”

Hmmm . . .

it's super weird that they picked the postal service for this.

As a former member of actual intelligence operations I find it comforting.

"Real" intel groups are utter shit at intel collection (honestly, just shit), the postal service could fuck up a blowjob, so in all likeliehood they mostly spend their days collecting "intel" about scantily clad social media whores.

Sure, there used to be all sorts of tightly regarded rules under the US Title code regarding collection against US persons, but we gave all that away under the Patriot Act and it's follow ons.

What im saying is the guy delivering my mail im not concerned with is all im saying. You are saying dont trust them either? You think they give a fuck? I figure they probably zone out and could care less.

I mostly agree with you. But it only takes one nosy mother fucker or if the USPS suddenly incentivizes its employees to “tattle”, well there goes your privacy.

It's a roll of the dice. How can you really put trust in someone you don't know?

It's not like on here where you trust a source not to screw you. They're in it for the money and have a lot to lose.

Your mail carrier on the other hand has nothing to lose by telling his superiors that he suspects or knows you're using the mail system to receive illegal items.

In most cases, you probably rarely see your mail carrier. Keep it that way. If he really wanted to be friends, he would knock on your door and hand deliver your mail to you... which would also be sketchy as fuck.

Short story long: just don't trust them to keep a secret for you and don't order from shitty sources with no packaging skills that would put your mail carrier in a position to make such a choice.

I ran a controversial website years ago..... made national news. One thing I discovered is.... tons of government agencies have their own investigations unit. I had the nuclear regulatory police looking at my site, US Supreme Court logged into it, you have no idea how many agencies are out there with departments funded to do stupid ass shit that has no connection to what they do. The nuclear regulatory commission could visit this site, looking to see if any of its employees are on here, it's crazy. I tracked many of the IP address's and was shocked out how many Gov agency's there are that I never heard about. US Gov agencies on international trade, you name it, it's unbelievable.
