what are your unpopular opinions?

Tipping, fucking hate the whole idea! Once upon a time I worked hard labor for minimum wage outside in the worst weather possible for the worst employers possible and I never got tips so I got into the trades and bettered my life.

So I have ZERO fucking sympathy for single moms who keep birthing out brats or high school dropouts who bring me my food or that stuck up cunt who thinks I'm supposed to pay $5 for a $3 beer every time I order:rolleyes:

Close yer fucking legs, get a better education and quit demanding my hard earned cash to support your uneducated hell brood!

Tipping is a ridiculous practice. It’s fucking crazy how the service industry has everyone convinced that paying an employer’s employees for them is normal.

You just sound like an asshole tbh.
I like helping people so I always tip 50-100%.
If you can’t afford it then you should stay home.

Sure
Tipping for excellent service is okay.

But the idea that I'm going to tip someone for sub par service... that can fuck off.

I tip according to service

I worked in bars and clubs for years so I’ve got a soft spot for people in the service industry.
I do agree that’s it’s messed up that tipping is standard, but it’s not the workers fault. I’m not gonna tip if the server is rude.
but yhe asshole above who looks down on people for their position in life is a true piece of shit.
he’s passing judgement on people without knowing their situation or anything about them. We’re all one misstep away from losing everything.
What people like him don’t realize is those employees he’s looking down on are the most important part of a business. I saw a lot of restaurants that couldn’t reopen because the workers didn’t wanna come back and put up with people like him and work in terrible conditions.

So the only way to help people is by giving them money lol? And where exactly did I say I couldn't afford it? If you chose to pay double for everything, well that's your choice and not something the general public can do as most families struggle paycheck to paycheck and by your logic those families should just stay home and that is just wrong!

If you can’t afford to tip or they can’t then they shouldn’t go somewhere where tipping is necessary. That’s not wrong that just not being an asshole.

I can get behind tipping for exceptional service, but the service industry as a whole has it's hand out begging for spare change because they are so "Hard Up" compared to the rest of the world  It's straight up entitlement!

And the flip side of that coin is if service industry people are so hard up for tips they should better their education so they can earn more and not reply on tips, but the majority don't because they make a killing in tips!

Or you’re just an asshole with a limited world view

What do you do to help them, after you don't tip them? Stand in line at WalMart and offer to pay for their groceries? Or, is that contributing financially also not helping the poorz, so you help them in less direct ways like voting for a particular candidate that will implement policy changes to incentivize them to get off their asses? That's altruistic shit.

He doesn’t help anyone. He doesn’t see past himself and his own experience. He reminds me of my piece of shit hillbilly dad.

I edited the above a bit too. I know his fucked up reasoning, all too common! If I go out just for breakfast I tip $10 minimum. How the fuck do you give another human being less than $10 for providing you with a service? It's the bare minimum and I feel kind of bad only tipping that, but when I do, the waitresses freak out as if I'm some benevolent person. They are conditioned to think they're worthless and it's really not right.

That’s it man. I’m not saying everyone has to tip like I do but if someone doesn’t want to tip then there’s places that it’s not expected

lol
I think yall are missing Jetsfan point a bit.

Like the part where he said ...
Why do I have to pay employers employees for them?

Wait staff etc should get a fair wage... and not TOTALLY rely on tips... even when the service is shit.

Fuck, I've worked with girls who made a couple Gs a night on tips... but that's a different story.... Places that arent higher class, should at least pay their staff a living wage and not totally rely upon tips

You should also be asking why businesses are allowed to pay so little that their workers are dependent on customers’ charity to survive.

The tipping system is ridiculous and people have been conditioned to see it as normal. In most of the world, servers will be insulted if you tip them because you’re implying that they’re poor.

Look, if you visit another country, you might see that service workers get paid a living wage. I don't tip there because, besides not being customary, it is unnecessary to tip because employers pay them.

The answer, for me at least, to this quandary as to how to allocate funds to service staff, is to make sure my conscience is clear when I leave after eating/drinking. Since I know the business doesn't pay them, I make sure I do. If you, personally, don't give a shit, that's a personal issue.

I scale my tips based on how quiet/busy the place is. If it's a buzzing Friday night at a bar, I don't tip 50%. What you need to understand is not everyone, like your friend(s), gets to work the good shifts at a busy spot. If you are at a restaurant or bar and there aren't many customers, that employee might be working a 16 hour shift for pennies. While impracticable for me to ensure they make a living wage as a single individual, I at least don't insult the person by giving less than a measly ten dollars that everyone here could literally wipe their ass with every day and not have to worry.

For me it's unconscionable to not make sure a person that provides me with a service makes a living wage. @Test_Subject also.

Throwing money at a broken system is madness. The burden of paying employees should lie on the employer. I’m not the one reaping the profits derived from their employees’ labour.

I get what you’re saying, but it’s essentially slapping a very expensive bandaid onto a compound fracture.

As as aside, I can afford to tip basically whatever I want. My issue with tipping is moral not monetary.

I've worked service.

A lot of great people....
A lot of people that dont put in the time/effort to deserve a tip (Then complain)

No one here has a problem with giving money to someone that deserves it (Via service).
Some establishments would fire the wait staff that didnt get tipped (Back when I was young) because there wasnt discerning enough service.
Some girls made a few thousand in tips on a friday night.
TIFF was the best.... I think one girl made like 6k ( @Human_backhoe confirm this one... I cant remember the number lol)

Someone just throws my food on the table... they're not getting shit.

It's the basic principle of capitalism.
If I do shit work... and dont look after my clients... I dont lose a few bucks in tips.. inlose a client and potentially millions in life long revenue.

Why is wait staff so special that they deserve to he excluded from the basic principles of employment/Capitalism and business?
