I actually have one of those light ones with the gel you put on your teeth but never used it. My girl got it for free and it had just sits in the cabinet. No idea how well it works.

I don’t use those products because it can wear away the enamel on your teeth. I only drink milk and water and I don’t smoke, Brush after every meal (I know this is a lot but it works). My teeth are as white as they can possibly look without looking too white.

I think my light doesn't have strips, it has just like a gel that you apply to your teeth, which is then photoactivated by whatever frequency of light they give you. That then causes a bleaching effect from the hydrogen peroxide oxidizing various substances on/in your teeth.

The reason I didn't use it is because I was concerned about the ingredients. I don't know what's in the gel exactly (never bothered to try to look it up), but in general gels (such as body washes, soaps, etc) are much higher in endocrine disruptors (EDCs) and carcinogens than other substances. Now, I am sure there are both EDCs and some carcinogens in the strips too, but with how long the strips have been in use versus the gel, and the fact that the strips stay more localized, whereas if you overapply the gel by accident it could get up into more absorbent areas your gums and cheeks, causing higher exposure to these bad chemicals.

So I just opted for the strips. They are cheap and work great. I still have a bunch left. Back when I was drinking coffee AM, tea several times per day, and using kratom (toss and wash, where you swish it around your mouth) I noticed a pretty fast discoloration of my teeth, so I wanted to get them white again.

I am sure the light could cause the substance to be more effective--it makes sense from a scientific point of view. Regardless, I wonder if there could be more side effects. After a couple weeks the strips give me tooth sensitivity due to the hydrogen peroxide oxidizing the nerve within the tooth.

Yes after 2 weeks sensitivity kicks in.

I personally use Squiggle toothpaste which is mostly xylitol based and also has fluoride (I get the fluoride because I am on well water with no fluoride at all.) There is some research showing that xylitol has highly beneficial effects on tooth health and even has been shown to REVERSE early stage cavities. So I use that shit morning and night, plus an electric toothbrush--WOW do those make a difference compared to the hand-powered ones. Just don't swallow the xylitol toothpaste, that shit can give you wicked diarrhea (look up "Haribo Sugar Free Gummy Bear Reviews" to get an understanding of just how powerful of a laxative xylitol is.

Essentially the science is that the brushing action xylitol with the xylitol toothpaste washes away the sugars in your mouth and replaces it with the xylitol, which the bad bacteria cannot consume. So they die and are unable to feed on your tooth enamel. There's some other stuff to it as well but it's been too long since I've read into it. Regardless, I have been using it for 2 years now and my dentist is constantly amazed with how good my teeth are. There were even a couple spots she said we'd need to keep an eye on that she can't find anymore--so I am a believe in xylitol toothpaste repairing enamel (which many dentists think is impossible).

Honestly though, if you like toilet humor, ready those gummy bear reviews. Holy fuck they are funny.

I have used the Equate strips from Walmart and they work quite well. Used them for 12 days every 3 months and are just as good as the much more expensive Crest Whitestrips.
