You have any links? I’m from europeThat shouldn't cause any red flags at all. There are quite a few options for bottle top filters on eBay (domestically) if you prefer to skip customs altogether.
Thanks alot! I also contacted someone on alibaba, a bottle top filter producer and they told me for BB and BA its best to use pvdf and not nylon. While ppl on here tell that nylon is best. What could be the reason of that?If you're in the UK this listing should do it for you: Sterile Top Filter Cup Bottle Filtration Vacuum Driven Fast Flow PES PVDF NYLON | eBay
Just make sure you select Nylon, PES membranes won't work with BB.
Thanks for your very detailed reply man, appreciate it. I will ask the seller and show them this file. Lets see why he thinks pvdf is betterSomeone here posted a "Filterware/Chemical Resistance for Membranes and Housings" guide a while back. In that guide nylon is given a satisfactory rating for both BB and BA, whereas PVDF receives a satisfactory rating for BA, but only a marginal rating for BB. So you can definitely use a PVDF filter for small batches, but you need to be aware that it may fail sooner than intended. Also, some types of filter membranes can be broken down by the BB/BA in the solution being filtered. I've never used PVDF membranes, but if I did I would check the appearance of my filtered solution, if it looks cloudy it could be that components of the membrane have found their way down into your media bottle.
As far as to why a bottle top filter producer may recommend PVDF over nylon membranes I can't say for sure. Since most bottle top filters used for homebrewing are used to filter less than 1000ml of solution it may be that he/she has determined PVDF to be perfectly adequate. It could also be that the company has better profit margins when selling the PVDF membranes as opposed to the nylon ones. You never really know what peoples' motivations are.
I attached a copy of the guide here and would give credit to the original poster, but I can't seem to find the thread where it was posted.
Why would you order bottle top filters from China if your worried about customs? So I was wondering, i am about to order 24 250ml top filters online from china. But what if customs see this package? Will it be an alarm for the local police if someone orders 24 top filters ?
