Syringe filter

Anyone know about this kind of filter?
Glass particles were still getting through so I cut one open

The filter medium was still intact. The “clean” side had a little bit of oil remaining and I feel between my fingers some grittiness. How is glass getting through?

Most likely not glass. Undissolved crystals and possibly other contaminants. But that is the reason for filtering.

I can't explain anything but it's starting to piss me off.
What do people typically filter out when they homebrew and what filter do they use?
Maybe nothing. Maybe filtering is a legacy from Finaplix-H cartridges when there was a ton of obvious shit that got filtered.

What's up with your recent obsession with this? Filter 0.22 um is easy; why the fuss?

That's very strange. The glass shatters are huge. The only way they would get through is if the filter itself has big holes in it

No, when glass breaks the pieces vary in size all the way down to not being able to be seen by the naked eye, it's called micro glass

I'm filtering through the filter needle and then through the micron filter and it looks like nothing is being filtered

It's obvious when the oil has been filtered correctly, it's perfectly clear

But you said you could see them with your eyes. Then they a huge in comparison to 0.22 micrometers

Okay this part makes no sense

We might be able to decipher what is going on if you explain in better detail your process

It sounds to me like you are filtering backwards which would explain your issue but I don’t want to assume without a more detailed explanation of your process

The correct process would be to draw the oil out of the amp with just a drawing needle, no filter. Then attach a filter and new needle and then filter into a sterile vial.
Is this what you are doing or are you doing something else?

You might be on to something.

For the filter needle, no you draw it out with that then switch to a 22g for injection, like a nurse would do.

Now for the micron filter you might be right. I've been filtering it drawing it out instead of pushing it out

Yes that syringe filter (wheel filter) is directional
They are designed only to be pushed from compound in the syringe out through the needle
If you draw with that syringe filter it will bypass the filter and not pass through the filter membrane
