My Blood Pressure and Hematocrit Story

I've always had bad insomnia. I took 3g+ mag bigylcyiante and couldn't stay awake. I swear I would have taken meth if offered to me.

ChatGPT says element mag RDA is 300mg which is about 3-4 gylcinate.
As bodybuilders and on gear we can utilize a lot more mag than the RDA too. I know on those anabolic roundtable YouTube videos with vig steve and Dr dean they've talked about trying to eat more magnesium rich foods and taking 400mg mag with every meal and how much it helps things like bp, alkaline phosphatase, pumps. I can't remember what all else they said. I'm at with so I can't search for it at the moment or I would get you a link

EDIT: this is one of the videos where they talk about magnesium but I'm not sure if it's the one where they talk about BP too.

This is where I learned mag is a CCB from type-IIx

I put the vig steve transcript in chatGPT:

Elemental Mg Target:
  • 10 mg/kg → 1000–2000 mg/day
Transcript Dosing:
  • 100–200 mg per meal (glycinate/citrate)
  • 300 mg Mg threonate at night
  • Total: 1200–2000 mg/day
Convert to Magnesium Glycinate (14% elemental):
  • 1200 mg → ~8570 mg glycinate
  • 2000 mg → ~14,285 mg glycinate
Capsules (125 mg elemental each):
  • 1200 mg → ~10 caps/day
  • 2000 mg → ~16 caps/day

I'll assume 300mg elemental mag is true. Dunno about their crazy recommendations.

3-4g of mag glycinate is the RDA at 300mg elemental. I'm too dumb to figure the rest out. Maybe @Type-IIx can elaborate.

Yes, cilnidipine is newer but I use Amlodipine instead whenever I do need it because it's a whole lot cheaper and I get no side effects from it. High dose magnesium works great too, just avoid mag ox or you'll have diarrhea(it works great if your constipated from a glp-1 like tirzepatide though)

I can tell you that my results with Cilnipidine have been so good at 10mg, I've upped it to 20mg. It's not just the BP reduction. On 20mg (w/ 40mg Telm), I've seen a 10bpm drop in RHR, my BP, down from 155/95 to 115/67 is very stable throughout the day, it's mildly anti-anxiety like a low dose of propranolol (this effect hasn't been closely studied but observed by doctors and reported in a couple of papers), circulation seems better everywhere, less water retention, and no sides whatsoever. No joke, I even pee better, from, I presume, some vascular relaxation.

Unfortunately I bought a bunch of 10mg tabs at too high of a price, but I found a source for Cilnidipine 20 / Telm 40 combo tabs that's a steal. 1000 tabs, aluminum blister packs(so 5 year shelf life), $60 *shipped* to US. Just landed in fact, 12 days. DM me for the source if anyone needs it. They've got all the other combos (10/40, 10/80, 20/80) and straight 5,10, and 20 Cilnidipine tabs as well.

I'm picky about which brands I choose, and hadn't heard of JB Chemicals before, but these tabs are made by Akums Drugs, one of the largest API manufacturers in India.

While no where near as serious as your experience, I thought I'd share mine from yesterday.

TLDR: Fairly new to this game, on relatively low doses, but my HCT and BP trended up over the past 6 weeks. Donated whole blood for the first time yesterday, feel better today and BP back to normal.

Stack:
120 Test, 150 Mast, 25 Var.

Starting HCT: 43
Starting BP: 118/72 (not on any kind of BP control)
On plain test only, the numbers are essentially unchanged.

Added Mast to help with E2 and Var for fun about 4-6 weeks ago.
HCT trended up, was 50 on last labs a few days ago.
BP trending up, was 135/85 yesterday morning.

Decided to donate blood before leaving the country for an extended vacation.

After 24hrs, BP is down to 117/72. I feel better/almost lighter. Going to take a break from the Var and reduce Mast to 120 for the next month and recheck labs.

Fun science.

PS: Var seems to have rekt my lipids, as expected, considering adding a statin if I take it again, which I probably will as I really enjoyed it. Going to cool things off for the next 8 weeks then probably try again.

If you drink 10 bottles of water 2 days before you donate blood. Then drink another 10 bottles of water the day you donate blood. It'll almost always bring your hematocrit down to where you can donate. I know this may not be good advice but I also take my blood pressure at night before I donate blood and then I take it again in the morning. It's never made me feel weird or anything but it makes my blood pressure low enough to where it's always good. Also taking two Benadryl before you go in will make you very calm and lower your blood pressure .... well in my case. Once before I donated blood my car ran out of gas and I had to push it in 100° weather like a block. Man my blood pressure was so high when I went in there I had to come back the next day.... haha

That sucks man. I always thought mast and var were among the easiest to handle.

"Rekt" may be a tad strong, but I was only on 25mg Var for 6 weeks and it took my HDL from 48 ->-27 and my LDL from 112 --> 154. ApoB pending still. Liver enzymes are all normal. Just lipid carnage.

I think I may be somewhat of a hyper responder, free test went from 60 --> 536 on 120mg test a week (40mg MWF) and total test from 320 to 1770. SHBG from 27--> 16. E2 from 8 --> 72.

This was only on 120mg test and 250 HCG a week.

Another set of labs drawn this week after adding 150mg Mast and Var for the past 4-6 weeks. results pending...

Those lipids are fine short term. Mine were worse for years because I was taking an antipsychotic. LDL was 190+. I still got off the shit, but otherwise feel fine.

Keep us posted! I was going to add 200-300mg Mast to my Test C TRT dose of 140mg/week. Wanted to use primo, but my main source I trust doesn't have it.

Totally agree. Everything is give and take. I am stopping var but keeping Mast in a 1:1 with testosterone. Will report back in 4-6 weeks and see what happens. I expect the lipid profile to improve.

Depending on what my test/e2 levels look like I may switch to primo. I have both Mast and Primo available. Never tried primo.

Will almost certainly try Var again in a few months. Pumps are wild. Just feeling my way around and trying to learn how these effect me personally.
