Filtering with vacuum pump

Brewed some L-Carantine, it was waaaaaaay too time consuming and difficult to get it filtered. I eventually go it, then went on to do some Boldenone which was much easier. not sure what happened to the carantine but i almost gave up on that.

I was gifted a vacuum pump This one to be precise. Im a bit of a fool and with the different pumps requiring different things, and different tools for different methods, what would I need to get my brewed oils filtered using this machine, instead of a syringe filter?

Bottle-top filter. Don't go over 12psi or you'll blow the filter. A hand pump is pretty simple. I think you can get them at an auto parts store. It's used for bleeding Blake lines.

thats good to know. I still havent even pulled it out of the box so Ill need to run through the instructions. I figured Id give it a shot as it was free, so what do I have to lose, other than a little oil

Those are PES filters. Won't the solvents melt the membrane? i can't seem to for the life of me find PTFE bottle top filters for a price that would make brewing worth it lol

That's Polystyrene. BA and BB will dissolve it.
BA is much stronger, but the % is usually lower.

It's not the best option. But if use with low % of ba... its your call.

Entire product is polystyrene, not just the filter.
I'm talking about the autofill 2 sterile bottle, not PES filter.
Polystyrene and PES is not the same.
Either BB or BA will melt polystyrene. Then you inject it ..

Funnel/ Bottle Material: Patented single-piece design made entirely from Polystyrene material

Ok, you win 2% ba is gonna melt the whole thing. Everyone stay away!
Make sure you never drink from a plastic container, especially one that's been sitting on a shelf (no ketchup or mustard for you). Also don't ever use plastic containers in the microwave... ever!

Add BB in too.
You dont need to melt the whole thing.
Melting a small amount is bad enough..

Not all plastic is the same.
The plastic used in syringes for e.g are highly resistant to BA and BB.

Im just saying that product should not be used for BA BB, there could be better products.

I agree. But when it's all that's available I don't believe 5 minutes of filtering is gonna do much melting of the plastic.

do you use these bottle top filters when brewing? Like i said, from my searches, it seems when everyone points to theirs it shows PES. So I'm curious given that Its been stated many times to not use PES, but when folks are doing larger batches and need those bottle top, the rule changes a bit lol.

I have used them before. Ptfe is the better option. I'm thinking of investing into a glass system for future use. Photon is correct. But from everything I've read pes seems to be fine as long as you're not using high amounts of ba.

Of course plastic isn't good! Even if there's a possible chance of a little getting into your gear, it's not a pleasing thought. I'm looking into a all glass solution that won't cost me an arm and leg. It's not like I brew often or much.

Everything I do to brew is done in glass, except for the 5 minute bottle-top filtering. Looks like I need to find a glass solution for the future
Ptfe bottle-top disposable units are like unicorns... it seems.

Hey bud. Do you have a link or recommendation for a glass filtering system that uses the 22um ptfe?

Yea, Going into this I knew I'd just load up amazon, and BOOM there would be hundreds of listings. nope. lets try aliexpress. nope. ebay? nope. damn, google me to some sketchy website? not really there either.

I wouldn't mind the glass route, but then I'd have to make sure thats sterilized up to spec vs just buying pre-sterilized replacements.

That syringe filtering wasnt toooooooo bad it seems. :yikes:
