Skin Thread Over 40

Any tips on helping to promote better skin? Mine seems to be very slow to respond to the changes I've put my body through over the last 2ish years (it does tighten up a bit but very very slowly), I have focused on better hydration, exfoliating and lubing, anything else I can or should be doing?

Stay out of the sun, no alcohol

I’m 57 and I do neither

To each his own….

Nothing will improve aging skin, imo, more noticeably over time than rHGH and low
dose isotretinoin. Two completely different mechanisms of action, but the combination is very potent.

No "hope in a jar" product will deliver anything close to the results of these two. Like after a year of this treatment someone who hasn't seen you for while being confused and trying to figure out why you look so different level of change.

rHGH I'm sure you're aware of. For low dose isotretinoin 5mg Accufine from India pharma is perfect. Dirt cheap, and easier than slathering product all over your skin multiple times a day, In the US dermatologists use 10mg every other or third day, since that's the lowest dose available, but it can cause (very minor) sides. 5mg is essentially side effect free. It's a microdose of the the normal anti-acne dose,

Both compounds improve appearance and elasticity, fade scarring, and eliminate minor wrinkles.

that's all bullshit.

Start tazarotene cream asap. Number 1 anti-aging compound for skin. Research it.

Yep, and if he wants to avoid any systemic sides, he can do tazarotene cream.

The cool thing about oral accutane is that you get collagen boost on all the skin, but many are very sensitive to even low dose oral retinoids in terms of mental sides.

Not sure about many. At 10mg / day it's around 2% risk for "mild mood" side effects. and near zero for anything worse. At 5mg it's so much lower than that it's statistically indistinguishable from those not taking it.

Isn't Accutane liver toxic? On top of aas use is this an issue?

It can increase liver enzymes in some people, however, the risk of liver injury is much lower than was thought previously. Regular liver enzyme checks during treatment are being dropped from requirements and just a single one at start to ensure there isn't an existing liver issue.
.

15% mild liver enzyme elevation
0.2% high liver enzyme elevation
Liver injury is so extremely rare it's below being statistically measured,

All of the above reverse once it's stopped.

6 extra strength tylenol over a few days is a much higher liver risk.

The above is at the normal 1mg/kg acne treatment dose. IE, 90mg / day for 185lbs.

We're talking about 5mg. ~95% lower than standard dose. Dermatologists don't order liver enzymes for this anti-aging dose at all.

*scours thread hoping to see someone mentioning collagen* hmmmmm

I’m close to 40 so I hope my input is welcome. Two scoops of collagen in my coffee every morning (also for the joints obviously)

I do oil cleansing, rose water as my toner (softens the skin while also having the perfect pH), hyaluronic acid, vitamin C serum.

Red light therapy is also amazing for anti-aging. 15-30 minutes a day, if you’re consistent with it, will produce visible results in a month or two.

This might be an obvious one, idk, but good skin starts in the gut. I have a list of “skin foods” in my notes app and I try to keep a number of those foods on hand on a week to week basis. Avocados, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, bone broth, eggs, fish, carrots, kiwi, coconut water, pomegranate juice…

People become so obsessed with treating symptoms rather than focusing on preventative measures. A balanced diet with healthy fats, antioxidants, fresh produce that hydrates you is a great starting place.

Collagen helps, but you might get maybe 10-20% skin boost, versus 100% from tazarotene cream.

Tazarotene cream is the GOLD STANDARD for anti-aging, nothing is more potent for boosting skin collagen/reversing and preventing lines/wrinkles.

I'm not a fan of systemic retinoic acid receptor activation in the body (its in the brain; hence mood side effects, and other organs/tissues).

Prefer to strongly activate those receptors in the skin where you want it via tazarotene which only really hits two receptors ; Retinoic acid receptor GAMMA and BETA whereas tretinoin (the old school cream) and accutane AKA isotretinoin activate ALL SIX receptors ; more side effects and downstream effects.

HGH+Tazarotene+oral collagen and avoiding excess sun exposure is the master recipe for anti-aging.

Good to know. I'm interested in trying it. Is it a daily application?

Technically yes, but my sweet spot is twice weekly only It is extremely potent. 2-3 times per week is a good sweet spot to prevent excess dryness/irritation.

You can order some from reliableRx or alldaychemist indian online pharmacies or you can ask your regular doctor for a script.

Any recommendations for moisturizing? Just a good lotion/moisturizer? Castor oil?
Castor oil is great for oil cleansing, although there can be a purge period and breakouts can happen initially. For moisturizing, if you want to go the oil route, jojoba is excellent, as it mimics the sebum we produce, so it absorbs wonderfully. Argan oil and hempseed oil are great too, and non-comedogenic (don’t clog pores/lead to breakouts.)

The best moisturizer I’ve been using lately, though, is plain ole beef tallow. There are some fabulous tallow moisturizers on Amazon.
