If you have a cup warmer (any cheap one from Amazon for like $15-20), just warm the oil and even a 25g will draw it fine. Personally, I recommend 22g or 23g for drawing, it’s the best balance.An older guy recommended that I use 14s to draw it out. I realized it was kinda unnecessary after a while but just kept using them out of habit. I had the thought that maybe when he started using gear the oil was thicker and maybe he needed a larger needle? I’m not sure just guessing
Once you start using 20g or bigger, you’re asking for stopper coring, especially if the stoppers aren’t top quality. That’s how you end up with rubber bits floating in the oil, and that’s something nobody wants to inject. Thicker oil back in the day might explain why some older guys used harpoons, but with modern oils and a bit of heat, there’s really no need anymore.
