Can you guys possibly list some Anabolic foods that would be good for a bodybuilding diet. I'm trying to avoid catabolic foods such as apples that take more calories to burn it off than calories that it provides.

Apples are a excellent addition to any bodys diet, far from catabolic.

We're told that an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but what exactly are the health benefits of apples? Here are ten reasons to heed the advice of that old proverb.

Bone Protection
French researchers found that a flavanoid called phloridzin that is found only in apples may protect post-menopausal women from osteoporosis and may also increase bone density. Boron, another ingredient in apples, also strengthens bones.

Asthma Help
One recent study shows that children with asthma who drank apple juice on a daily basis suffered from less wheezing than children who drank apple juice only once per month. Another study showed that children born to women who eat a lot of apples during pregnancy have lower rates of asthma than children whose mothers ate few apples.

Alzheimer's Prevention
A study on mice at Cornell University found that the quercetin in apples may protect brain cells from the kind of free radical damage that may lead to Alzheimer's disease.

Lower Cholesterol
The pectin in apples lowers LDL ("bad") cholesterol. People who eat two apples per day may lower their cholesterol by as much as 16 percent.

Lung Cancer Prevention
According to a study of 10,000 people, those who ate the most apples had a 50 percent lower risk of developing lung cancer. Researchers believe this is due to the high levels of the flavonoids quercetin and naringin in apples.

Breast Cancer Prevention
A Cornell University study found that rats who ate one apple per day reduced their risk of breast cancer by 17 percent. Rats fed three apples per day reduced their risk by 39 percent and those fed six apples per day reduced their risk by 44 percent.

Colon Cancer Prevention
One study found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 43 percent lower risk of colon cancer. Other research shows that the pectin in apples reduces the risk of colon cancer and helps maintain a healthy digestive tract.

Liver Cancer Prevention
Research found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 57 percent lower risk of liver cancer.

Diabetes Management
The pectin in apples supplies galacturonic acid to the body which lowers the body's need for insulin and may help in the management of diabetes.

10 Health Benefits of Apples

.

Yea I know apples have plenty of health benefits but from a bulking/weight gaining perspective it has no use. I'm looking for strict anabolic food that provide more cals than it takes your body to break down. So yea I'm starting up my bulking cycle again for the winter, any suggestions for foods? I need to broaden my diet

Well bulking up is super easy and you can also add healthy foods such as apples on top and easily get your caloric requirement to bulk.

Bread
milk {chocolate,banana,strawberry}
bananas
peanut butter{how much do you want to bulk lol}
sugar
pasta
rice
potatoes
cake
biscuits
chocolate
ice cream

should I go on,how much do you want to bulk,i.e how many calories are you looking at consuming?

Lol did you have to rethink that one.

It really depends on the timing and what foods you mix together e.g

Ice cream preworkout.
cake postworkout.
With protein of course.

So you want to bulk and stay pretty at the same time?
So I now get the feeling you want a list of foods that are low GI and low fat

You must be one of these people that need spoon feeding information

e.g eat exactly 73.4 grams of clean burning low gi carbs preworkout
sweet potatoe, rolled oats with 30 grams of chicken breast or tuna
post workout eat a further 62.1 gm carbs 33gm of which are high Gi with 45gm of whey protein isolate.

Look all you really need to do for a lean bulk is count your calories and add 500 ed on top of the requirement for your LBM and expenditure,
Plus get your apple a day it will help keep you pretty

Nice, yea generally all the foods you listed are what I eat (minus the cake and ice cream). I am 185 right now, trying to hit 225 with minimal fat within a year and 1/2. Went from 140-185 within a year and 1/2 from lifting and getting proper recovery time while eating nutrient rich foods. Eating every 2 hours to keep a constant flow of nutrition throughout my system. I take a protein shake 3 times a day, L-glutamine, Phosphisidal serine to reduce cortisol post workout, and ZMA when I'm not taking a casein protein shake with milk before bed. I know what foods to eat, really what I was trying to get out of this are suggestions of awesome foods to add to my diet. Basically all I eat right now is egg whites, tuna, chicken, salmon, steak, apples, bananas, oatmeal, grits. I need to be more broad with what I eat, I need to eat more nutrient rich foods that are healthy but also are good for building muscle (good sources or protein and carbs). A sweet potato would be a good suggestion that I might use for post workout carbs

Well my diet contents are very similar to yours.
I dont eat preworkout icecream but would if I was skinny
I do eat preworkout toast with honey and Cinnamon + protein:)

Carbs are really the controlling factor in a bulking diet the amount of which is as important as protein in determining your weight gains ,which of coarse you already know.

So basically its low gi carbs thoughout the day to stop from cutting into you bodily reserves
and a combination of high low gi pre and post workout.

There's so much to say about diet
Here's a thread I dug up with some good guys saying their bit.

Jasthase, just a question about diet: I've been in OZ now for the last 4 years and I haven't been able to find some foods that are readily available back home in Canada. Do you know if anyone here sells egg whites, or whole eggs in a carton? Like Egg-Beaters (which are the egg itself in an easy to pour carton, like milk). If there is one thing I miss, it's those :(

Cheers

Ah, NZ. Seems like a beautiful place. Reminds me of Canada a bit. Anyway, I haven't seen those Orgran No Eggs anywhere. Coles and Woolworth's have fawk all. Thanks anyway guys.

Cheers

I'm just about to start a bulking diet that is predominantly low carb for 6 days a week. If I eat carbs I feel sluggish and tired and bloat easily. I'll let you all know how it goes and what it contains once I get it all worked out.
