Wellbutrin and Libido

Not causing the same libido detriments as an SSRI is not the same as providing libido benefits. If one has a low libido while not taking anti-depressants, I do not think Wellbutrin has much of a positive effect. I certainly haven't noticed any.
 
The effect is transient but real. It probably has to do with the dopamine reuptake inhibition. I'm betting it's prescribed more as an adjunct to treat SSRI induced sexual dysfunction than as an antidepressant itself.
 
I never felt anything from it but I didn't feel it affected my libido negatively either. I was on it for more than a year. Then suddenly went off it because it just made me too anxious.

It may have helped with my depression at one point but it wasn't a cure-all. I still got depressed and frustrated at times.

Now I take 5-HTP every once in a while and I have yet to develop an opinion on that.
 
Have you ever heard of deprenyl? I have read multiple times that if used at 1/4 of the recommended dose for Parkinsons it can have amazing benefits as an anti depressant and libido booster without any nasty sides

I looked into Selegiline, and my endo was willing to let me try the "emsam" patch which is a transdermal form.

BUT, I decided against it because i dont like how it metabolizes into amphetamine and methamphetamine. :mad:

I think Wellbutrin + 5 HTP would be a good combo.

It is prescribed as an anti depressant. It is touted to be one of the few anti depressants that doesn't adversely effect libido. Some people claim it boosts their libido.

I was on 300 mg of extended release a day.

I did start taking the 5-HTP while on the Welbutrin but a lot of what I read warned against it because it may cause serotonin syndrome.

Not sure if it was possible but I also take dexedrine for ADHD as well as Armour, so the combination of all those stimulants made me a bit jittery, so I quit the Welbutrin cold turkey and I haven't noticed any ill effects from stopping it.

5HTP wouldn't cause seratonin syndrome with Wellbutrin. It might cause seratonin syndrome if used with SSRi's.
 
I dont know what I got from Wellbutrin, other than I think some nervous ticks. I dont think it stimulates libido at all. Probably creates more confusion, or distraction, than a focus on sexual desire, IMO... Also I dont think there is any question that the extended release benefits somewhat in the application with this drug. Especially the 300mg dose. However, I believe it is still all uptaked within 8 hours, and I dont think the hang time is all that long.

Further, there is no question it will cause a hot ass temper that makes any potential steroid aggression look like a baby. The two combined is probably not a great idea. I think the temper issue can be mitigated with slow and proper titration.
 
I was a two-pump chump when I was on it. I take zoloft now, and last way too long. I was thinking about taking both, but I'm way too touch sensitive on Welbutrin alone. I dunno.... I wish I could find a happy medium. ya know? good luck, bro.

Yeah i'm back on Wellbutrin now (i want to give it a proper 3 week trial, last time i stopped after a week) and already I am noticing i am having a tough time controlling my temper. I can consiously tell myself "calm the f**k down!" but definetly wellbutrin makes me more irritable than normal.

I am on the 150mg XL and i honestly don't think i could go any higher than this dose.

Haha seriously? well i use condoms and that helps me last an extra few minutes.

I am hoping wellbutrin helps my libido, according to this study i found:

Several studies have indicated that bupropion also relieves sexual dysfunction in people who do not have depression. In a mixed-gender double-blind study, 63% of subjects on a 12-week course of bupropion rated their condition as improved or much improved, versus 3% of subjects on placebo.

Yeah, my one ex-girlfriend knows me as in-out; I'd like to run a marathon on her now. There's a huge difference in trying to have an orgasm vs. trying not to. lol...
 
150 is borderline too high to start IMO. That stuff should be increased in 50mgs e3w IMO.....

I am not arguing the 2 pump thing. Just saying I dont know about desire increase.... I wish the side effects from SSRIs would last for me. They just dont. I'd be a porn star by now if they did....:rolleyes:

Yeah i wanted to start on 100mg and move up, but the 100mg is only available in generic, no the name brand. Some people have reported issues with the generic Wellbutrin, so I decided to stick with the name brand 150mg dose.

I'm more irritable than normal if my cortisol is high, and elevated cortisol levels lowers testosterone production..
