Hi, I'm not an American ,but I do have a lot of interests in American lifestyle, including politics.
I asked one of my American friends if he supports Obamacare,he said shit no,the government is too big, and get their hands on everything.
Is this a common opinion or what? If so, how can Obama got re-elected?Was the GOP too weak?Or you guys just think it's all the same no matter who got elected?
It's just foreigners got confused sometimes.

You'll get some good answers I'm sure. But it's going to be the same shit no matter who's at the helm. Your not he only one confused.

OOPS...I mean "the only one"

Another thing is, do you guys vote at the election time?If you think"it's going to be the same shit no matter who's at the helm"

This country was founded on the principle that individuals are responsible for their own well being and actions.

Somewhere along the way (I blame LBJ's great society programs of the '60s), people started expecting the government to be responsible for their well being. It's been snowballing for decades, and now here we are in a big giant mess.

It's really a lot more complex then that, but IMO, that's the jist of it.

Yes, I agree. It seemed to start spiraling downward sometime right after Washington. (George) [:o)]

I watched a little footage of last election, Ron Paul wished to build a small government, and I heard that a lot of young people supporting him, but he failed in the primary.
Does it mean that most people are happy to see the gov. to be responsible for themselves and Obama, the so-called "Socialist", got re-elected?

Are you testing our IGNORANCE.??? If so you WILL Most likely succeed. Thus is the problem with the Country today...

Truthfully, our constitutional election process is FAR more demented than folks commonly believe. The president is actually elected TECHNICALLY by the ELECTORAL COLLEGE...

The US CONSTITUTION (http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/constitution.html) IS a Very Interesting and Powerful PIECE OF WORK.
Not Facetious, its a fine work refined well over many years with solid and well founded principles of FREEDOM, LIBERTY, FAIRPLAY, HUMAN RIGHTS - The FOUNDATION OF THE GREATEST STEP IN THE HISTORY OF MAN...

Real Practice however, To$$e$ in ALL Elements of Man, not all necessarily UNRELATED to the Devil. GIve & Take REQUIRES Checks & Balances. ='s SLOW ACTION Effecting EVEN Slower Evolution of said. So its really a wonder they tossed the BASE together so Quickly/Readily which is why THESE MEN are so REVERED. Negative Counter Productive Facet$ of man were not involved at the time of the construction to the degree they are these days as we were UNDERDOGS AT WAR and FIGHTING for OUR FREEDOM.. These days, we have to BE $QUALIFIED$ to Fight if we want to ENJOY these rights, due to a long history of SOCIAL PROSPERITY which has diminished our APPRECIATION of Freedom. This is because the PEOPLE Comprise CORPORATIONS, Which INFLUENCE POLITICS, Which ELECT future Leaders, WHO ARE THE PEOPLE - Compri$ing corporations.

I Personally $uspect that we will one day have an issue as significant as the separation of the CHURCH and STATE in the Good'OL EMPIRE back in the day. As Corporations NOW BEING OWNED by Foreign countries. How will this change the past POLICIES of Political In$entives!!!?? Does ANYONE HERE have ANY IDEA how much US Corp is now really CHINESE CORP.???!!!???? I wonder will they Proxy via PROXY of a GHOST PROXY. Who will the future Lobbyist BE?? Actually - Who are they NOW.....?!

I digress on my own unintentional tangenting HIJACK. By how I low to JACK IT. LOL. See RED Colors below before you move on..

http://www.archives.gov/federal-register/electoral-college/historical.html

How are they picked by "the people (us common folk/US Citizens)..? How do we get our say? How do we actually effect our VOTE which we took the time to register to do and then drive our assess down on OUR NICKEL to take OUR TIME to stand in line and punch those buttons??

Who selects the Electors?
The process for selecting Electors varies throughout the United States. Generally, the political parties nominate Electors at their State party conventions or by a vote of the party’s central committee in each State. Each candidate will have their own unique slate of potential Electors as a result of this part of the selection process.

Electors are often chosen to recognize service and dedication to their political party. They may be State-elected officials, party leaders, or persons who have a personal or political affiliation with the Presidential candidate.

On Election Day, the voters in each State choose the Electors by casting votes for the presidential candidate of their choice. The Electors’ names may or may not appear on the ballot below the name of the candidates running for President, depending on the procedure in each State. The winning candidate in each State—except in Nebraska and Maine, which have proportional distribution of the Electors—is awarded all of the State’s Electors. In Nebraska and Maine, the state winner receives two Electors and the winner of each congressional district receives one Elector. This system permits the Electors from Nebraska and Maine to be awarded to more than one candidate.

Are there restrictions on who the Electors can vote for?
There is no Constitutional provision or Federal law that requires Electors to vote according to the results of the popular vote in their States. Some States, however, require Electors to cast their votes according to the popular vote. These pledges fall into two categories—Electors bound by State law AND those bound by pledges to political parties.

The second of the TWO being the INTERESTING $OPERATIVE$!!;)!!:eek:

The U.S. Supreme Court has held that the Constitution does not require that Electors be completely free to act as they choose and therefore, political parties may extract pledges from electors to vote for the parties’ nominees. Some State laws provide that so-called "faithless Electors"; may be subject to fines or may be disqualified for casting an invalid vote and be replaced by a substitute elector. The Supreme Court has not specifically ruled on the question of whether pledges and penalties for failure to vote as pledged may be enforced under the Constitution. No Elector has ever been prosecuted for failing to vote as pledged.

Today, it is rare for Electors to disregard the popular vote by casting their electoral vote for someone other than their party’s candidate. Electors generally hold a leadership position in their party or were chosen to recognize years of loyal service to the party. Throughout our history as a nation, more than 99 percent of Electors have voted as pledged.

REGARDING STATE SPECIFICS FURTHER....:

From "Bithers.org" (whatever the hell that is) - http://birthers.org/misc/26-24.html

The Founding Fathers, the Electoral College and the Insanity of the Department of Justice

The quest to determine Obama’s eligibility has seen the Department of Justice resort to our Founding Fathers. In their motion to dismiss they state,

The Constitution’s commitment to the Electoral College of the responsibility to select the President includes the authority to decide whether a presidential candidate is qualified for office because the examination of a candidate’s qualifications is an integral component of the electors’ decision-making process.

Explaining this provision of the Constitution, Alexander Hamilton stated that: “the people of each State shall choose a number of persons as electors, equal to the number of senators and representatives of such State in the national government who shall assemble within the State, and vote for some fit person as President.” [emphasis added]. See Federalist Papers, No. 68.

If this is true then why hasn’t the Department of Justice sought “federal” election law violations in 26 States and the District of Columbia that mandate that the electors vote not for someone who is “fit” to be President, but vote for the person who wins the popular vote?

What is more disturbing is that this particular group has a sufficient number of electors to place into office a person who they are prohibited by law to determine if this person is fit or not.

ALABAMA - 9 Electoral Votes
Party Pledge / State Law - § 17-19-2

NOTABLE - The Alabama State Constitution APPEARS to be INDECIPHERABLE to the layman. LOL

[ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_Alabama]Constitution of Alabama - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

The Constitution of the State of Alabama is the basic governing document of the U.S. state of Alabama. It was adopted in 1901 and is the sixth constitution that the state has had.
At 340,136 words, the document is 12 times longer than the average state constitution, 40 times longer than the U.S. Constitution, and is the longest still-operative constitution anywhere in the world.[1] (The English translation of the Constitution of India, the longest national constitution, is about 117,369 words long, a third of the length.)
About 90 percent of the document's length, as of 2012, comes from its 856 amendments. About 75 percent of the amendments cover only a single county or city, and some deal with salaries of specific officials (e.g. Amendment 480 and the Greene County probate judge). This gives Alabama a large number of constitutional officers.
The Preamble runs:
We the people of the State of Alabama, in order to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, invoking the favor and guidance of Almighty God, do ordain and establish the following Constitution and form of government for the State of Alabama.

Section 182 disqualified from registering and voting all "idiots and insane persons"

All idiots and insane persons; those who shall by reason of conviction of crime be disqualified from voting at the time of the ratification of this Constitution; those who shall be convicted of treason, murder, arson, embezzlement, malfeasance in office, larceny, receiving stolen property, obtaining property or money under false pretenses, perjury, subornation of perjury, robbery, assault with intent to rob, burglary, forgery, bribery, assault and battery on the wife, bigamy(marrying a new wife whilst having one, NOT to be confused with BIGOTRY), living in adultery(age old method of success in marriage), sodomy(now where would the fun be), incest(it has to end somewhere!- LOL), rape, miscegenation (interracial breeding), crime against nature, or any crime punishable by imprisonment in the penitentiary, or of any infamous crime or crime involving moral turpitude; also, any person who shall be convicted as a vagrant or tramp, or of selling or offering to sell his vote or the vote of another, or of buying or offering to buy the vote of another, or of making or offering to make a false return in any election by the people or in any primary election to procure the nomination or election of any person to any office, or of suborning any witness or registrar to secure the registration of any person as an elector.

CERTIFICATION OF NAMES OF CANDIDATES; NOMINATING PETITIONS; NAMES OF ELECTORS; STATEMENT OF ELECTORS

THIS SECTION WAS AMENDED AND RENUMBERED AS SECTION 17-14-31 BY ACT 2006-570.
(Acts 1975, 3rd Ex. Sess., No. 138, p. 370, §2; Act 2003-311, p. 731, §1.)

Here we go..:

(a) When presidential electors are to be chosen, the Secretary of State of Alabama shall certify to the judges of probate of the several counties the names of all candidates for President and Vice President who are nominated by any national convention or other like assembly of any political party or by written petition signed by at least 5,000 qualified voters of this state.
ARE THESE(Above) WHAT ARE REFERRED TO AS LOBBYISTS/ The ones that are REAL PLAYERS.
(b) The certificate of nomination by a political party convention must be signed by the presiding officer and secretary of the convention and by the chair of the state executive or central committee of the political party making the nomination. Any nominating petition, to be valid, must contain the signatures as well as the addresses of the petitioners. Such certificates and petitions must be filed in the office of the Secretary of State no later than the 6th day of September next preceding the day fixed for the election.
CUTTING IT CLOSE AREN'T THEY NOW...... Hmmmm
(c) Each certificate of nomination and nominating petition must be accompanied by a list of the names and addresses of persons, who shall be qualified voters of this state, equal in number to the number of presidential electors to be chosen. Each person so listed shall execute the following statement which shall be attached to the certificate or petition when the same is filed with the Secretary of State: "I do hereby consent and do hereby agree to serve as elector for President and Vice President of the United States, if elected to that position, and do hereby agree that, if so elected, I shall cast my ballot as such elector for _____ for President and _____ for Vice President of the United States" (inserting in the blank spaces the respective names of the persons named as nominees for the respective offices in the certificate to which this statement is attached).
SO WAIT - Are they calling their "shot" two months prior to the election?!?

(Acts 1975, 3rd Ex. Sess., No. 138, p. 370, §2; Act 2003-311, p. 731, §1; §17-19-2; amended and renumbered by Act 2006-570, p. 1331, §72.)

Search ALA CODE § 17-14-32 : Alabama Code - Section 17-14-32: NAMES ON BALLOTS; VOTE FOR CANDIDATE COUNTED AS VOTE FOR DESIGNATED ELECTORS
The names of all candidates for President and Vice President who are nominated as provided in this chapter shall be printed on the official ballots under the emblem of their respective political parties, as filed in the office of the Secretary of State of Alabama. The names of the electors of the candidates for President and Vice President shall not be printed upon the ballots. A vote for a candidate for President or Vice President shall be counted as a vote for the electors of the political party or independent body by which such candidates were named, as listed on the certificate of nomination or nominating petition.
SO TECHNICALLY - We have to show up and vote to enable our "representative Electoral Collegiate to ENABLE/trigger?

So HOW Many do we get?
Search ALA CODE § 17-14-30 : Alabama Code - Section 17-14-30: NUMBER OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTORS

On the day prescribed in Section 17-14-10, there are to be elected, in the manner provided in this chapter, a number of electors for President and Vice President of the United States equal to the number of senators and representatives in Congress to which this state is entitled at the time of such election.
(Acts 1975, 3rd Ex. Sess., No. 138, p. 370, §3; §17-19-3; amended and renumbered by Act 2006-570, p. 1331, §72.)

IS POPULATION BASED?... For example - NY has 27 / Alabama has 7. One congress rep per district. How fairly is a district related to population and HOW does it related to GEOGRAPHICS & DEMOGRAPHICS. These lines are laid in TIME and ARE efficient if not perverted by tangent/time related.

OK - So MOST of my interpretation is REALLY HORSE SHIT... But the fact remains that TECHNICALLY, the electoral college could vote opposite the COMMON PEOPLE'S VOTE....

***I never really got to the facet of WHEN each Electoral College member FORMALLY calls his SHOT, When it is actually Effected in the election process, or/and HOW he is actually accountable for his action. I DID note that these laws DO NOT appear to be upheld/ENFORCED by the federal government. I SUSPECT its because their Path$ are laid LONG before the election.

The End..

Preach it BBC3. I don't think half of the voting age population knows squat about our Republic or it's constitution.

Well, it's a bit too long and too complicated for a foreigner, especially when the foreigner is living in a country of which has no general election or vote.
