Mike Tyson Vs. Bruce Lee

Manwhore makes a good point. There are a lot of moves that work well on a 1/2 speed, non-resisting opponent. This is why TMA's hold so much appeal and mystique. However, the whole thing changes when the opponent is actually trying to hurt you.

For instance, I took karate when I was young. I still remember one move that I thought was cool as hell until I started actually fighting for real.

When a guy throws a punch, you grab his wrist and turn your back while placing his elbow on your shoulder. You then pull down and he either gets flipped or his elbow breaks. Hey, that sounds cool as hell! Too bad it would never, ever work. Hell, someone turns their back on me and they'll quickly find themselves being placed in a read naked choke.
PLus you'd have to have cat like reflexex to catch someones wrist when they throw a punch at you :) I like it how they do all the moves in slow motion and then think that the same moves are going to work in real life situtaions. When i(dont want to speak for everyone) say karate doesn't work and is just for show,I'm not saying it doesn't work in any fight. I'm sure there are alot of karate blackbelts who can knock out your average joe with a kick.

It applies to everything. I have been teaching my son some wrestling moves and I showed him a couple of really good ones that will work when he is efficient with them. However he does them on me in super slow motion and insists on trying them in his matches. They work in practice but not even close in a live match. The main difference is these moves will work in a live match when he becomes proficient with them

nope. he got lippy so i showed him the banana splits lmao. Like all young kids he wants to do the olympic etc alot but doesnt know how to set it up. A young kid with a good olympic is tough to beat. He has pinned two kids now with the olympic but it is a pretty poor version. All arms and not much hip thrust. more of a pull and trip move :)

You teach him the ball and chain yet? :D

That's better anyway. In folk style you can't do a full fledged 5pt. throw anyway. I think they classify it as potentially dangerous and will penalize you a point.

It's always nice for him to know wrestling,if it comes down to that, but i think it's also good for him to know alot of finishing moves, like smashing noses and crushing adams apples. It gets the fight over much faster just in case his opponents friends deside they want some, too. If he is learing for wrestling class, that's cool. If i have a son,i want him to join wrestling too. I'm going to tell him to always keep on his headgear,so he doesn't get that cauliflower ear :)

I'm waiting for the site to come up then i'll post a Mirko CroCop video. I've never seen him fight and i would like to. I just don't know what video it is,but the guys are talking about his furious kicks.
