10 Minute Mile on a Treadmill...???

How many of you all KNOW you can do it? That doesn't include, THINK you can do it, but KNOW for sure. So, for ppl that haven't ran a mile in 10 minutes or under at least 3 months ago, test yourself, and see if you can achieve this feat by running on a treadmill at exactly 6mph for 10 minutes straight. I know it sounds easy, but it was hard for me and NOT something I would want to do everyday to say the least ;) . I want to hear other ppls comments and if ppl can do it or not.

NOTE: Unless if my nose is stopped up, I do it by breathing thru my nose the whole time.

I got ya on this fr 60 minutes. But if I stop running for a few months it takes about a week to build it back up to 10 minutes. I mainly run Towers. Thats a BITCH!!

So, ur saying you can run 10minute miles for 60minutes at a time equating 6miles, correct? Also, you said if you quit running for a few months it takes about a week to get yourself back to being able to run a 10minute mile, so I assume you are an avid runner, Sir? What is your running schedule if I may ask (time length, MPH, # of times a week)?

I usually run 100 Towers, 2 days a week with a 45lb vest on in the hot Florida sun. Its a typical firefighter training drill.

When I run, I usually run a 10k without the vest 3x a week. Unless I am getting REALLY fat, then I will usually run 5 days a week with the vest to cut out some of the belly bulk. I am in a profession where I need to stay active incase lifes depend on it. I am also short so the pounds show up quick.

But yes I am a big guy so If I dont keep my activivity up I get lazy and it takes me a week (3) runs to get myself back on a good track.

Anyone who follows the couch 2 5k program can get a great grasp on running and use that as a formula to use to advance their running speed.

I too run around a 5K 1-2 times a week normally, but I have cut back recently in order to bulk. Before I stopped I was doing 1 - 6 1/2 mile run a week at about a 1h 10min pace. It can be challenging that's for sure, but if you just set time or distance goals, it's all about putting one foot in front of the other and positive self talk.

Build up to it.

When u do the 10K run, do u kno wat ur MPH pace is, Sir?

I routinely run 3-6.5 miles at a 7:00 minute per mile pace (outside with hills). Once you work up to it, it's pretty easy. The key is to just do more of it in order to build your endurance. Unfortunately, I can only run once, sometimes twice a week now or my knees start to disagree with me.

I started running one year in June, and I decided I would enter a 5k run in August. The goal was just to be able to finish the race without stopping. I ended up running at a then record pace of about 7:30 per mile, and I got 3rd place in my age group. After that, I was hooked.
