Anyone try using red top 10 ml Vacutainers instead of a Vial?

My only concern is that they have a silicone coating on the inside of the glass...

They are soooooo cheap.

If I'm not mistaken I believe they contain a small amount of preservative to prevent the blood sample from hemolyzing edit * I spoke to soon. They make them with and without preservative and also coated or uncoated. Would be easy for lab operators to fill them quickly and guaranteed sterile container.

I think everyone starts with pre sealed vials and then graduate to using a crimper when it becomes a job. For personal use though, I dont see why you wouldent go with pre sealed.

What do you intend to use them for exactly? They are called "vacutainers" for a reason mate. Which is, they contain a VACUMN bc they are used to DRAW BLOOD. The Vacu vial is placed into a "holder", with an attached needle, (see pic) and once the needle comes into contact with a vein the blood is literally sucked into the vacutainer itself.

Also, once the seal is broken, the caps are quite loose and can be removed or FALL OFF with relative ease.
I just can't believe these would be a reasonable substitute for the TRADITIONAL capped vial in use today.

TOP pic with the VC tube inside the holder below.
