10 reps 3 sets?

Doing sets of 10 reps each is not the best way to build? Am I doing too much for too little?

I try to go the gym 6 days a week, alternating cardio, abs, & lowers with arms/chest/back, all possible machines & weights in 3 sets of ten reps each (except cardio, of course). About a 1.5 to 2 hour intense workout each time. No conversation. I'm mature:rolleyes: in years so maybe fear drives me. Wears me out & I'm sore as hell, arm joints especially. I am certainly building but I'm densing the muscle tissue even more.

I'm just a recreational lifter, but I take it seriously & want the most effect for my effort.

Post your workout in detail, sets, intensity per muscle ect.

I'm 38 and hit the weights 4x a week legs once a week, and upper body 2x..one heavy day 6-8 reps high voulme and one light low volume day high reps 15+.
