10ml vial - Any pharmacies refusing to fill?

So the (new) doctor just prescribed to me one 10ml vial, but the doctor noted that some pharmacists are simply refusing to fill what the doctor called "multiple use vials," implying that some pharmacies will substitute smaller vials for the 10ml prescribed.

I have not encountered this before. I thought it was an odd thing to say.

Have any of you encountered this? If so, which pharmacy?

I typically have my prescription handwritten, go to GoodRx, find a place near me that is cheap with a GoodRx coupon, and have it filled there. Because the prices change, I do not always go to the same place (which is why I was surprised by this statement).

Publix, Walgreens, CVS, Kroger, Walmart are all I can remember for now that I have used over the years, in addition to a couple of small, local pharmacies that usually cannot compete on price, but for some of the pharmacies on this list it has been quite a while, so I did not know whether things have changed.

I thought I would ask this crowd before I go have this filled to avoid any issues.

All over the forums… haha just wanted to say use the search function…haha jk jk

I will say a lot of people have atarted using compound pharmacies due to this issue but they are a bit more expensive but empower maybe the best to have that sent to in order to get the 10ml vial plus they can do it in mct ….

A lot of the goodrx pukes wont fill it any more unless u have a vagina looking to grow a fake weeiner…

Every pharmacy I used (Walmart, Walgreens, cvs) only distribute 1cc vials although my doc writes it for “10cc + 2cc”. I’ve only been able to get 10cc vials if he calls in to a compound pharmacy.

Ah, I did not think I needed to search because I would have seen it from reading and posting so much . . . lol

Disappointing.

My month of trt comes in little single use vials- four of them each with 1ml@200mg. They’re cute.
But why?

Most are not being prescribed 200mg in one dose, so that makes it not a single dose vial at all.

If you are prescribed 120 mg, then that is 60% of a vial. If injecting twice a week, that is 30% of a vial twice. Then what? You have 40% left in there.

Do they give them all to you at once, or do you end up having to drive back and forth to pick up a vial every week?

Hmmm . . . my search turned up only one other thread than this one, and it was from 2018, with no pharmacies named, and several of the posters had their doctors specifically prescribing 1 ml vials.

Maybe I suck at running searches.

i get a bunch of tiny little vials, but its actually beneficial bc theyre always filled to a minimum of 1.1ml, and usually fall around 1.2ml

it IS annoying, but personally im just going to transfer them into a larger vial once i accumulate enough of them.

My TRT script is 190mg/week of Test Cyp and .5mg anastrozole.

I started at a clinic where they did frequent blood tests and dialed my dose with the goal of getting me near top in range levels on trough day while watching my bp hct lipids e2 etc. Could have gone higher if HCT didn’t creep up to 50. It was a mix of proper care and drug dealer behavior since I was almost definitely out of range high T shortly after pin day, but at least they were monitoring my bloodwork, bp, and asking about my mood and temperment.

After a couple years of paying $60/week for shots which included bloodwork and other minor RN services they offered gratis the bloodwork started being every 6 months not the initial every 2 weeks then monthly then bimonthly. I appreciated that they got me on- my T was dumb low and my doc wouldn’t.

So I had them print my recent bloodwork and script/treatment plan and brought it to my annual physical. Doc referred me to the urologist. After peeing and a bladder ultrasound the doc there said he’d be happy to continue my scripts thru my insurance- clinic was cash- but that he wasn’t the HRT expert and they had a new doc coming who would want new bloodwork. Expect a call in a couple months they said.

Three months later I called- yeah she’s here but not scheduling yet- we’ll call you and set up when she’s ready. The nurse practitioner refilled my scripts for a couple more months and said they’d call me and send scripts for bloodwork which I’d need to refill my scripts.

Never got a call and when my script ran out I figured fuck it now I’m UGL TRT. Then my pharmacy robot texted me “your script ran out, reply YES to have us contact your doc for a refill”. I replied YES and boom my $32 a month 4 oneML bottles and two anastrozole pills to be split into 4 doses (which I’m leaner and need less now- do my own bloodwork!) were ready for pickup.

So apologies for the long story but there you go. Four one ML bottles of 200mg Test Cyp get picked up every month with AI pills and stockpiled for legal interstate or foreign travel while I cruise on UGL and do my own bloodwork.

Dunno how long this will last, but I seem to have happily slipped thru the cracks in our fucked up healthcare system.

Oh and another thing I found funny- years back I was on heparin to prevent blood clots after having robot parts (screws & plates) installed in my shattered rt arm and leg. They gave me these goofy preloaded safety needles that retract after use and sent a nurse to my house to show me how to inject subQ.

The TRT script the urologist doc said nothing about proper needles, gauge, length, injection sites, rotation. My first pharmacy pickup I asked and they threw a handful of 25g 1” pins in the bag without charging me, that was it. Of course I knew how to alcohol swab my bottle and my shoulders and buttcheeks, and draw/pin already but I was kinda shocked how different and hands off it was from the hand holding they did with the blood thinners.

Oh that's funny. When I started on trt, my doc said he'd have someone teach me how to inject. I told him my wife was an RN and would either teach me or inject for me.

He got a big smile and said, she was going to love getting to poke me a few times...

Ha! This place is hilarious someone asks a serious question and didn’t even get to page two before we’re talking about pegging!

But does your prescription say 10ml vial?

Mine does. And "no refill."
No but curiously my first pickup they had gotten the script wrong and it was 400ml in a 10ml bottle, but only 100mg/ml concentration. Had to call them and get it straightened out. The script is just 400ml @200mg/ml and they give me four individual boxes with the little bottles. My wife’s hrt is a comically low amount like 11mg/week so she has been working on that low concentration pharma bottle forever

I guess I was hoping for folks to say which pharmacies were giving issues.

I will just deliver the prescription and see what happens. Mine clearly says one vial of 10ml at 200mg per.

I had not encountered the issue of smaller vials unless the Doc prescribed it that way, and I thought this Doc's statement about pharmacies doing whatever they want was odd.

I'll let you all know if it turns out to be an issue.
