2016 WADA Prohibited List

How is a beta blocker on the sports blocked list. What if the athletes are taking due to irregular heartbeat?

I'm not sure that a top tier athlete could or would compete with a heart arritymia. It may cause death. But hey, whatever it takes #5%

Possibly. But here's a fun fact - asthma is very common for many of the world's top level athletes. You wouldn't expect to see asthmatic athletes anymore than you'd expect to see athletes with heart issues really I wouldn't think.

If there is a medical need I think that there are options for athletes as far as WADA is concerned. Maybe @Millard Baker knows how this kind of thing is handled as I know he's highly familiar with WADA's bullshit... Oh regulations I mean...

That's interesting. It make sense... Shit would keep you steady as can be.

Yeah, that's the idea. Could come in handy on a put. There are millions at stake after all.

Different sports are going to have different performance needs, not all being strength or endurance, so a performance enhancing drug for them could be something like that. Or stimulants for focus/reaction time or whatever the needs of that sport might be.

I know beta blockers are common for musicians. If I have a business meeting I like using them... No anxiety, no foggy head... Just feels like you're on your A game.

I've never taken one before. Sounds kind of like Xanax without the benzo sides.

Yeah, very similar effect IMO. Very little potential for abuse I think. Completely removed any of the butterfly in stomach feeling for me with public speaking. I often wondered what would happen if taking them on a meet day to keep your head cool but I think they would ultimately work against you by limiting arousal and aggression.

I do prefer to stay mostly calm throughout a meet, but I need to be able to summon the aggression for my third attempts. This minimizes fatigue and if you choose your first and second attempts wisely there's no need for any hype to crush them. Save it for the third. If the beta blockers prevented you from being able to do that then I don't think they'd be a good idea.

I would have asthma too... if that meant I could get a puff or two from my albuterol inhaler!!
