2020...Coronavirus and beyond log

alright so heres how the comp went

AXLE BAR ROUND ROBIN
started with 175 and went +50lbs then +40lbs then +50lbs so on and so on. ypu could skip an attempt anytime you wanted amd just move to the next weight in the next round.
600 moved like a joke. easily could have hit 5. skipped 650 to save energy for 690, and put pressure on the one guy in my weight class that hadnt failed. he hit 650, skipped 690 to sew if i would hit it(his attempts were before mine). missed 690 at my knees. knew it was a gamble but felt extremely confident.

VIKING PRESS
i think the weight was around 400. i hit 12, other guy in my class hit 25 and another hit 17.

STONE OVER BAR
275# stone
first time doing stones and was alot easier than expected. obviously some practice with technique work would have been beneficial. i got it over the bar 4 times and missed it at the bar twice. which was all technique from what guys at the comp told me.

YOKE/KEG/HUSAFELL medley
650/275/335
Finished the yoke and keg, couldnt get the husafell up high enough to walk with it. First time doing yoke with any weight, and man, it was alot harder than i thought!

IRON CROSS HOLD
this was the mystery event. cable attachment with a 25lb chain per side, held to your side without elbows bent. got something like 36seconds.

placed 2nd overall. guy in first has competed in worlds and the arnold a few times. dude was 5'6 and every bit of 231. had a ton of fun and meet a bunch of cool people. my other comp in july got canceled so hoping into PL mode. The week post comp i just dicked around and did a ton of machine work. tried for a 700# conventional deadlift on a DL bar but failed at my knees. is what it is

this is from the last 2 weeks

That's awesome
Congratulations on the 2nd placement as well.

It seemed like a lot of this (Like the yolk) was pretty new for you.

With the experience under your belt you'll be better prepared it you want to do another competition!

This legit cracked me up! My new goal is to get strong enough to consider a 700 lb deadlift “just dicking around”. That’s pretty badass, man.

i guess i should have worded it better lol its still a big deal, especially in my non comp stance.

Happy with how sumo went. Plan was 574 off blocks for my top set but it felt like a rpe5. Everything else after felt like hot garbage. The night before i had a couple back to back sessions with the lady friend, missed 2 meals the same day and was running on 3 hours sleep.

ive miss quite a few meals the last couple weeks. Ive dropped about 6-7lbs since. i look fucking great though lol so just going to ride the train and be a little more prepared. had about 6k calories today. slept about 9 hours last night and took a 2 hour nap.

decided to give this its own post rather than at the back end of my log post

i know everyone and the world is a mess right now, but i feel like it's been exasperating some mental health issues i clearly have. I wouldn't fully use the term Manic, because i have friends and people i am close to that are clinically diagnosed manic depressive. i have seen them in those states before, and it is not an accurate description of what im going through or feeling. Maybe just more acutely. But i have been feeling alot of similar ways really since 2020 started. Probably before then, but just noticed it and was more aware of it now. Some of my actions in my daily life have been a bit outside of my normal characteristics.

Decided early this week to go see a professional. Problem im running into is some aren't taking new clients/patients due to covid. Its not a life or death matter, ive made most of my family and good friends aware of it. Talking clearly helps. But i come from a family history of depression, so i would rather get in front of the ball now, than wait 10 more years and have it be really bad.

Man reason im sharing all this is because mental health is a huge problem in society. especially among men that amost of us that are here age groups. ive had 4 friends commit suicide and a few others that were at those points before in their lives. posts like these can sometimes find a way to seem contrived. But i really am just posting for 1: the therapeutic effects 2 : in hopes that if someone else is struggling, maybe they will then be more inclined to say something 3: to get some dialogue going

thanks guys

I think its pretty fucked up the way that medical practitioners in general are treating patients now. There’s a lot of people going through hardships financially and in other ways because of covid and the economic fall out from it. Non life threatening injuries and other problems are being pushed aside. Treating everyone like they have covid even if they don’t. This whole this has really been a stain on our country

Talking is always the best, be it with Family, Friends, Doctor, or even strangers. I cant speak for everyone but willing to bet that you always have the floor here if you need to talk and we are all listening.

Depression is a tough thing.

I've seen some friends go through it.

Energy is zero, though its are bad and it's easy to get caught in a rut for sure.

It's good to vent and verbalize things, even just bounce some ideas and thoughts off of people to ensure you're on the right track.

Keep us posted and just write down what you're thinking/feeling.
It helps

Just putting in work. fairly standard linear periodization never really going over 9RPE on any of the main work. Week 6 bench was the exception. knew 308 was going to be a stretch but bench hasnt felt really good for weeks. best is 315 for 10 so not too far off.

Also at a much lighter bodyweight, 227 on sunday morning AFTER increasing cals that week. Really liking the way i look right now. 275s isnt going to happen. it could but it would be bloat city. 16 weeks out, sp would have liked to have at least been in the 248-254 range already to push to 265-270. Still could put on a solid 20 pounds and make 242 easily. Would just like to TRY and stay and the level of leaness i am now.

Man that's a lot of.weight to throw on in 16 weeks lol

yup was around 1am my time. saw you like it and figured you were just getting off work

I'm actually off on Sunday, but I keep to this schedule permanently. Do my food prepping and stuff Sunday night after my girlfriend goes to bed. I go to bed around 5am when I'm off work.

Good to see training is going well. I'm working on getting my conventional up as well to give my hip a break from sumo.

Training was going GREAT this week. Went to my old gym for day 4 with deadlifts. The blocks they had are too high so decided to pull from the floor. Was planning on switching to pulling from the floor next week anyway. Last set of 635 felt a slight pain in my upper pec, figured it was my pec cramping up, since its ungodly hot where i live currently. And ive had my pec cramp on me before during sumo. rep 3 of 675 felt a very pronounced sharp pain from upper pec/collar bone.

Did conventional back offs and it was still killing me. Tried doing SSB squats and that hurt it even more so left the gym. Almost 100% positive i dislocated/popped my first rib out of place. Going in to see a chiro tomorrow to hopefully have it set back into place.

Not sure how it will feel after that happens. sucks cause training was going really well, and at a new low body weight( pulled the 675x3 at 226) and was supposed to hit a 402-414 AMRAP on squats today which i know was going to be over 10 reps.

Hit a classic bro leg day today
Belt squats with 4-1-4 tempo
4 sets 12 reps

Seated hamstring curls(10 single leg add plate them do 10 with both legs)
3 sets 20 reps

Banded Leg Press
4 sets 15 reps

Sissy squats
3 sets 12 reps

Split squats
3 sets 8 reps

Lying Hamstring curls
3 sets max reps

Nearly puked after the banded leg press. first time in a long time thats happend. Figured for now ill train legs and back(whichever movements dont hurt) for now, each twice a week. dont think benching is an option right now. tried some push ups and they were painful.

15 weeks out so as long as i can have 12 solid weeks i should be good to go.

Tried to do the head supported rows for upper back, but my rib said not today. Happy with the session given it's been about 11 days not touching a barbell and with my rib still giving me a little bit of problems.

Goal for this block is hammer my back. I've neglected heavy back work, minus deadlifting, for a few years now. Mostly just focusing on pump when doing back. Thinking I'll have a heavy day and a pump day.

Going to try and squat tomorrow, if in too much pain I'll just do belt squat and heavy sled drags.

Decent day. Tried low bar, but was bothering my rib so I tried hi bar and it was pain free. After watching the video of the 364, I had way more than I thought left. Rated it at 8RPE was more like a 6.

Platz style squats are just hi bar very close stance constant tension squats. Never fully standing up. Quads and quad drive is a huge weak point for me so I'll stick with these. Especially since they are pain free

BW is I think the lightest I've been in a long time. Strange cause I looked alot more lean 2 weeks or so ago at 228. Chalk that up to not really lifting much at all the last 2 weeks. Upped my cals a bit today. Got 20-23lbs I can gain in 13 weeks.
