Off subject but I need to do a lagitament DNA test. Except for my mom, my mom's sisters (completely blood related and not half) all look like their straight up out of the reserve. We don't know where my grandmother died but she was a Cherokee Indian and left for whatever reason and died somewhere. A private investigator was hired LONG time ago but nothing turned up. My mom's mentioned a DNA test a couple times. This isnt an important thing to her but just curious more then anything. Would any DNA test do or should there be a specific one done?

What role do genetics play?
DNA test do not legally prove heritage. Only gives you validation IF you choose to pursue legal Native recognition

Part of it is a joke. Not the part about being native. That is is proven by my autosomal DNA test. Then the next step is applying at the tribe you seek to establish lineage from. That is the legal way. The Bureau of Indian Affairs can supply one with the information youd need. Then each individual tribe has their own regulations to establish rights. Since they are sovereign they can impose any hurdle they wish.

That is the only way to legally prove Native lineage. Your grandmas telling you say isnt gonna cut it. And my point is simple. Ppl will be offended by what they want. The jews, my Native heritage. We all have plenty to yell and scream about. The question is, why dont we? And the color of my skin as what it is perceived to be can get alot of ppl in trouble. Gotta have that autosomal DNA test

One of my best friends growing up was a Seminole indian. 35k a year tax free since he was 18 and an extra 10k a year just for going to college and getting a degree. Can't beat that deal lol

Well considering we stole their lands and practically committed genocide of the entire native population i think giving them a small reparations and letting them have their casinos is the least we can do lol.
