5X5 Program w-torn ACL/bad knees??

I am 41yo and 16wks post ACL surgery. Doc does not want me doing and heavy leg work for several more months and possibly never... Additionally I may have to get other knee scoped in the future.

My overall health / fitness goals are probably best aligned with the "Mens Health Forum"... I lift using very traditional routine 2 -3x wk working mostly upper body. I do elliptical (prescribed by doc) 30-45m / 3x wk keeping HR @ 85% of max.

My strength, blood pressure, heart rate and blood results are much better than normal for my age group. The issue is I have (which is no real surprise) is I have made no real gains in size or strength for the last 12 months. I would like to update my lifting program and the 5x5 program would be vastly different for me. My question concerns the obvious leg / strength constraints I have.

Can you guys provide me some advise on what my options could be by modifying the 5x5. Also if the 5x5 is not the best can you recommend something else??
