Abbreviated routines

My wife just had a baby so I just don't have very much time to spend in the gym. With that in mind I need a good abbreviated routine for the next few months. I was thinking of the following:

Day 1
Deadlift
Overhead Press
Chin ups

Day 2
Squats
Bench Press
JS Rows

I want to do Day 1 on Mondays and Thursday, Day 2 on Tuesdays and Fridays.

What do you think?

Sounds good, very similar to the original 5x5. Lots of compound movements, little or no isolation exercises. If you haven't read the stickie on the 5x5, you should. I love the 5x5, and have made great gains from it....without juice, and had plenty of time for my work and family life.
E-Dawg,

Ya i would stick to the 5x5. You dont know how good it really is until youve done it completely once or twice. Plus its only 3 days a week, 1 day less than your program.

But if u prefer urs, try it...see if it works

Your routine looks good and would work decently. I've been there, done that with the kid thing. I'm about to do it again in fact.

But ask yourself this, am I utilizing all of my time? Do you watch ANY television? How much time on the net? Could you maybe switch to AM workouts for a bit? I'm not trying to dog you, I just think most really need to evaluate their time. I am by no means an anomally, but I have a full time job and a side business, a wife and kid, and still can manage a workout or even 2, of some kind every day. I also get 6-8 hours of sleep still too. A little structure to your day goes a long way.

No doubt, I could definitely manage my time better. The baby is only three weeks old right now and I can only fantasize about 6-8 hours of sleep at this time. I'm sure it will get better in the coming months...

I work from 8:30am to 6:30pm 5 days a week. Not really a morning person so I can't imagine getting to the gym before work and don't have the time in the middle of the day. I just think for the next few months I want to get a decent workout while still spending as much time with the family as possible. Good points though Girth.

Little hint.....NO ONE is a morning person. You have to force yourself into that.
