Abcess, Somehow I got rid of it myself.

OK, Had some unusual swelling in my left quad after a Prop injection. Decided It could be an abcess, so I watched it carefully, It never got hot, i never got a fever, or a headache. But I did notice that there was a indentation in the middle of the area, so I basically concluded it was an infection.

I started antibiotics, and after 5 days I noticed a small blood bubble came to the top of where the indentation was. I gave a slight squeeze and the thing fucking oozed out bloody puss. I squeezed until i couldnt get anymore out.
Every squeeze sent chills up my spine so I could tell it was deep.

I rubbed some triple antibac. ointment on it and kept it covered for the night. next day I removed covering. Its now a few days later and is pretty much healed.

All I gotta say is thank god I didnt have to go to the ER, and BE CAREFUL, I always use extremely clean injection procedures IE washing the area with anti bac soap first, alcohol swabbing the site, then pin, the top of the vials.

Needless to say, I bought a whole new set of 150ML prop.

sev, where do you get the anitboitics from? Just incase someone else got an abcess, it seems like it would be a good idea to have those on hand just as you always should have anti-e's on hand.

Testy-One Actually I had a script left over from when my girlfriend got her wisdom teeth out, I never throw away a prescription.
Ask on the Classifieds, they helped me bigitme.
And BTW I got 30 more Anti B's just incase. Better than a hospital trip.

Spound yes I do alcohol swab the needle itself then I wait a couple seconds to evaporate then stab, sometimes I get a sting from it but oh well. And BTW I only do this if oil has ran down the pin. otherwise it should be sterile.

this makes absolutely no sense.

Please tell me why? dont just tell me it makes no sense. Enlighten me.
Not being an ass, maybe you can save me some trouble. Its just the way I learned to do it. I dont like having oil on the pin, seems to me that airborne bacteria could pass through oil much easier.

the pin and the oil should both be sterile...alcohol is not a sterilant...if you wiped the needle with the same swab used on your leg, you could have transferred the bacteria that way...also, some oil on the needle is good, because it acts as a lubricant when the needle goes in...when I get all the air out, I always get just a little drop of oil on the tip of the needle

i was under the impression it was. so why do you wipe the injection spot and the top of the vile with alcohol first? what is that purpose?

Move the bacteria away.

alcohol isn't a very good method of killing bacteria, but it does move oil, dirt, and anything trapped in the oil and dirt away from your injection site.

more bacteria has a chance of living on an alcohol swab than a fresh pin and the oil you just sucked up.

that pin has to pass 14day sterilization tests. that alcohol swab just has to be soaked in alcohol to pass it's qc.

Had a similar experience in my shoulder was self admin antibiotics when a hole opened in my shoulder and I drained literally a sink full of puss out of it.One hell of a stinky mess but better than being sliced open. )

I was using aqueus(sp?) penicillen like test susp but much thicker really have to shake it up good and use a larger gauge needle..but it works well and fast for any type of infections.

cool, thanks for the explaination.

thats probably why you got the abcess if you swab the needle. There was probably trace amounts of dirt/dust on the cotton swab, and then you transfered it to an already sterile needle.

If ANYTHING touches that needle after I unsheath it, I put a new sterile on on there. I mean, even a touch of my finger, or anything. No one should be touching the needle in any way, with anything before an injection...ever.

You can never be too careful when injecting. I also only inject after I shower and scrub the injection site well with hot soapy water.

I had also learned that you should never touch the needle with anything. So I second his ^ response. Use a prep pad for the bottle and then a different one for the inject site. In fact, a lot of nurses SCRUB the shizzle out of the injection site.
