What would be a good antibiotic to have on hand (and what dosage would be appropriate) to treat an abscess?

doxycycline, minocycline, cipro. whatever powerful one you can get your hands on.

i keep those and a few others around just because. i've got a well stocked medicine cabinet because my doc likes me.

I would say get some Cipro bro, really good antibiotic for abscesses. U can get most antibiotics from online vet s upply houses if u cant get them from a source.

Augmentin as long as you don't have a Peniciilin (PCN) allergy
this is the first line for cutaneous abscess. cipro will miss some
anaerobic coverage which is common with abscesses

if allergic to PCN we use a 3-4th generation quinolone Tequin or Levaquin

the real treatment is incision and drainage.. any surgeon will tell you the treatment is a 10 cent piece of steel.. meaning incise with a scapel
