Accutane, How much to take???

one or two start wit one maybe see how you take to the sides then work up to 2

After just finishing a regimin of accutane prescribed by my dermatologist I can tell you its weight dependent. I didnt realize this because of the common info passed on the boards. When I went in after my first blood test to check liver a nd chollesterol he asked what I weighed. I told him between 255 and 260 and he shook his head. So we went out to the scale in the offices hallway and I was 258. Thats when explained that the drug is weight dependent for dosing and told me Id be taking 120mg per day. Thats alot higher then Id had ever heard people recommend so I asked if he was correct and he broke out some literature that explained it.

Since its not likely youll have an allergic reaction since its a derivitive chemical of vitamin A Id recommend starting at 80mg a day unless your very light or very heavy. By the way id also HIGHLY recommend blod test before during and after you use this. This stuff is WAY HARDER on your liver than AAS and hits your chollestoral hard too.
My cholesterol went from high normal 185 and trigycerides of around 140 to cholesterol of 280 and one month 290 my tryglicerides went over 300 and stayed up there the whole time.
The last month was month 8 and my liver enzymes shot up like mad then and I was almost finished anyway so we stopped the therapy.

Its been 4 monthes now since my last dose and im still cleared.

By the way my joints FUCKIN KILLED while using this stuff. I couldnt walk right my bones in my feet and ankles hurt so bad.

Also I was SUPER dry, cracked bleeding lips, flaky white dry skin EVERYWHERE and itchy too.

You may want to check out some med boards that cover this because I dont think most bodybuilders know whats really going with this stuff(no disrespect to anyone).

And remember blood tests this stuff can cause liver and cholesterol prblems that you wouldnt be aware of otherwise.

Hope this helps

I'd just start out at 2 per day and see how it goes,,that completely cleared mine up and I used 1 per day to eod to keep it at bay,,I think it mainly depends on how bad you're broke out to begin with,,120mg is the most I've ever seen anyone take,,of all the studying I did on the subject before taking it 80mg was the most I'd seen recommended, and they had severe acne.

Bro the sdose me be weight dependent but I know for me I got excellent results with 2 a day (40mgs), and I used IP accutane. By the way I weighed around 265 when I used it and ran it for six months. I had blood work done and everything came back normal. So it sounds like as with most drugs the sides are dose dependent.

That's exactly why accutane has a bad reputation, exactly what my dermatologist told me from Americans, they're overdosing in it for an accute short-term effect, rather than doing 30-40mg for 1-2 years.

For mild steroid caused acne I used to take 20mg/day for 3 weeks few times per year. As time went by, I needed to take it less frequently. Now I only take once per year after I come off blast, to avoid acne caused by hormonal rollercoaster.

Side effects are generally tolerable, dry lips, some drandruff and somewhat dry skin (face). Takes about 6 weeks to normalize and I'm left acne free with occassional small pimple, nothing too bad.

your being a bit dramatic accutane didnt affect my liver at all

only got dry lips on 80mg per day

The general course is to reach 220 mg/kg over time. Theoretically, then you never have to take it again.

Depending on body weight, that's like working up to 120 mg/d for a few months (or a lower dose for longer).

The only seemingly permanent side effect I got is dry lips. And no acne even when on cycle.

Your lips stayed dry even after finishing? Or you just mean during the treatment?

I used low dose accutane for years. I wonder if that's why my knees are fked now. At least the effect on my skin was permanent. I still get compliments.

Studies show 220mg/kg cumulative dose, along with at least 51 days use after reaching full clearance give you the statistically best chance of never getting acne again.

Liver injury is virtually unheard of.

Sides effects are transient for the overwhelming majority of patients. Dry skin being a rare permanent effect for a very small group.

It's pretty clear after 40+ years that while the sides can be unpleasant while on it, the fear over this drug has been unwarranted, with the exception of birth defects if used while pregnant,

I got up to 180mg/day (briefly), but hung in there at 160mg for a while. I wanted to get through the whole 20,000mg course in under 6 months.

Oddly my lips dry out badly every winter, but this year, after accutane, they're better than ever.

Part of that might be developing a strict lip balm habit while on accutane.

im starting month 5 on 80mg of accutane im still getting some breakouts on my body not as bad but i thought it would be faster tbh

You go through "purge" cycles, area by area, ie, chest, forehead, etc as treatment progresses. But TBH I was fully clear by 3 months and had only been on 80mg for a few weeks at that point.

Are you using UGL?

You also need a pretty high fat meal for maximum absorption, which I strictly followed.

Dunno if you're covered by insurance or this is out of pocket, but you may want to ask if you can switch to one of the types of Accutane that doesn't require fat to absorb, like Absorica (or a generic equivalent). That way you can be sure you're getting the full dose, Not enough fat can mean as much as an 80% reduction in effective dose.
