Accutane purging giving me acne in really weird places or is this hormone induced?

Hi all,

Just wanted to discuss some issues I’ve had with acne. I’m not super acne prone, I’d say only had mild acne over the years, some here and there when I’d get stressed out or didn’t keep on hygiene.

I started TRT about two years ago in my late 20s. Always had issues building muscle as a teen/young adult, always had to eat massive surpluses to gain and when I’d cut I’d lose all my muscle and just end up skinny fat. I managed to get pretty lean in my early 20s after basically starving myself for over a year while lifting and doing absurd amounts of cardio. Finally went and got my t levels checked around 25 and tested at 250 and 270 a couple months apart. Hopped on TRT and haven’t looked back.

Since then I’ve run two “cycles”. First one I was a complete retard, added anavar (which was fine) and enjoyable but also MENT/Trest after seeing it hyped a lot on /r/steroids on Reddit. The MENT fucked me up, had terrible BP issues despite how good it worked on my physique. Came off and that’s when my acne went insane. I started getting it on my forearms and around my knees, sides of my back by my arm pits. The weird part is that it isn’t white heads which is what I had always gotten before hormones. It’s weird little bumps that do pop and spew out pus but they’re very small, and very hard to pop usually since they have no head. And there’s a lot of them. Started low dose accutane and kinda got it under control.

Did my second cycle about six months later, more anavar and added a bit of primo every week. Upped my test from TRT of 120mg/week so I was doing 250mg of test and 150-200mg of Primo a week. My lifts exploded, I got absolutely massive lol, for me at least, went from XL being big on me to needing a XXL. Loved it.

When I came off that’s when I again had issues, despite still being on low dose accutane. More of those same tiny bumps with no heads but still kinda pop. Eventually went to the dermatologist and got a full prescription for accutane.

Simultaneously I was having issues breathing at night due to chronic sinusitis. Ended up getting a septoplasty and turbinate reduction. Because of that I had to come off the accutane so it wouldn’t interfere with the healing process.

So now it’s been quite a bit since I came off, and it seems my acne is worse than ever. Thankfully none on my face, but I’ve got it on my legs, still on my forearms, by my knees, tons of those bumps on my back. Only ever been on my
TRT for almost a year since and the acne doesn’t seem to improve.

What I’m starting to wonder is if it was actually the purge part of the accutane cycle that I hit and that’s what’s making my skin so messed up. I’m thinking maybe I quit right when the purge was happening so I was left with completely messed up skin that doesn’t seem to improve unless I manually pop these bumps. I’m wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue with accutane purging, or if this does sound like a hormone induced issue. I’m about 1/3 of the way into what my cumulative dose should be and I’ve read that 9-12 week mark tends to be where people experience purge. I’m gonna get back on accutane soon when my order arrives but just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue with purging actually really affecting their skin or if this sounds like me just being a noob and fucking up my hormones and giving me bad acne in weird places.

dude low dose accutane is a temp fix. You need to do 0.5 to 1mg per kg of your bodyweight for a few months for a more permanent fix. dont be fooled by the low dose accutane hype, they arent on AAS or arent very acne prone. do high dose accutane and just take the side effects

yeah and dont quit the accutane during the purge, keep it going. if u cant get a high dosage presribed then get it generic from online sources. pm me there is a seller on this forum of accutane raws

I am on AAS and acne prone, while blasting 20mg mo-wed-fri gives me a clear skin.

Im talking about literal cystic acne, the 0.1% of the people who get it the worst. go look it up on yt
yeah I get bad acne like that when I don’t use accutane. Low dose does help

Just bump up the dose until it works.

I have/had cycstic akne, taking 40mg of accutane + 100mg of Zink every day for nearly 3 months now, skin is doing much better, no longer have pain from the acne

thanks all for the replies, I seem to break out even if I go from a certain TRT dose to a lower/higher one.

I don't get cystic too much I just get lots of little white heads and I hate it so much.

My doc in the US wants me to get up to 80-120mg, was on 40mg a day to start, I just went abroad mid accutane cycle and think I left during the purge. Found some in Greece at a pharmacy but in Japan currently and they won't prescribe without a prescription. Sounds like you're right I'm gonna have to get up to a much higher dose than the 20-40mg low dose accutane people talk about working for them.

Will report back after I get a couple months into 80mg and see how my skin is doing. I'm late 20s and still have acne, and TRT makes it worse, so lame.

it all depends on ur weight. i think 0.8 mg / kg bodyweight is a good dose for severe acne. thats what worked for me. and dude, if u plan to go overseas, go to the pharmacy or doc and tell them so theyll prescribe u for those weeks in advance. or if u cant do that, just take less accutane so the supply you have currently will last longer and you can use it in ur overseas trip

There are a lot of threads on here about accutane. Low dose works. Less sides. Higher dose will get you where you need to be quicker.

Accutane works by permanently shrinking the sebaceous glands. When they start to shrink they release a lot of oil. Acne relief occurs at a cumulative accutane dose of 120 mg per kg of body weight. So for a 200 lb guy: 90 kg * 120 = 10,800 mg so take accutane at whatever daily dose until you reach 10,800 mg. If you take 20 mg/day you take it for 540 days. If you take 80 mg/day you take it for 135 days.

Don’t run oral steroids with it at all.

After struggling with Acne for years I started Isotretinoin (Accutane) about two months ago with a prescription from a Dermatologist - Like you mention the purging is normal but from what I've been told you need to just wait it out and keep taking it until you hit the culmulative dose (mine is 120mg/Kg). As far as I've been told it doesn't matter in terms of dosing as long as you are consistently taking it until you reach the culmulative dose - Im taking 40mg/day.

I don't think I've got it in other places, more that it excarbated the issue in areas where I already had it. I developed more in my shoulders which was never a problem when I started my first cycle.
