Ambien question

Just a dumbass question I thought of today.... does Ambien show up on a standard drug test? Would it show as something worse than what it is?

I get randomly tested and I'm in the middle of a Tren cycle and haven't slept well for some time. My girl was like "Honey, take one of my Ambien, you need to sleep." I took it and good lord did I sleep like the dead!

But the thought hit me today... "Gee Bozo, what happens if you get tested and that crap registers as something else?"

I generally dont worry about stuff like this, but there's been a rash of positive tests lately so they're expanding the testing program. Any intelligent input would be appreciated.

I highly doubt it.
I was worried about gear a while back when looking for jobs.... so I called all the labs in town and asked them what they tested for... I don't think thats one of them. They are mostly looking for coke, smack, speed, pot, and narcs....
Look up Labcorp and call them. ask em

Ambien (zolpidem) is a strange drug all the way around. This is not a stupid question @ all, in fact its not very easy to answer definitively. Most people will tell you, including my fellow colleagues who should know better, that Ambien will not show on a standard big 5 screen. Well, that's one reason why this quasi benzo is a strange bird. Ambien has been known to give a false positive for benzos because it shares some of the same properties as benzos. It would be a FALSE positive of course since it is not a benzo. I have not actually ever seen this happen though. No one really knows the odds of this occuring. I think the primary reason we do not see more false positives w/ Ambien is because of its clearance time. With a half life of 1.5-2 hours the drug obviously clears rapidly & should be undetectable within something like 6-13 or 14 hours max, w/ the low-mid range being most likely. So obviously if you take it @ night, sleep 6-8 hours, are tested @ the earliest a couple of hours after that, then chances are it has already cleared therefore no worries about a false postive. There is a test that can detect zolpidem up to 48 hours. This is an expensive test & will not be used in mass drug testing. It is used primarily in forensics & I have seen regulating bodies such as medical boards, nursing boards, etc. mandate it for people who are on their substance abuse/diversion program, much like they do w/ fentanyl. This is very rare though, and the person would be responsible for the testing cost, if they wanted to keep their medical license.

Definitely more info here than I could've ever reasonably expected. Thanks, Rex. You're definitely the guy to go to for questions like this.

I work for a treatment center and I am head of the "Detox" dept. We actually give ambien 10mg to people coming off of opiates due to their sleep deprevation. We also have an employee that takes ambien and he was worried about the same thing because we are drug tested at least twice a week because we work with alchoholics and addicts and our supervisor is gung-ho and extremely adament about that. And no, it does not test positive on a standard narcotic drug test. Good luck-also great info rex-you know your shit!
