if anyone actually takes the time to look up what liberalism/liberal is you would realize that that set of mind is completely dominant of conservatism. you can have a liberal state of mind and still maintain core beliefs. i dont get why people think calling someone a liberal is a bad thing....you are basically calling them a more advanced/progressive thinker who has a open mind and is willing to concede to newer or better ideas.

If ANYONE relies on the govt to take care of them in retirement, then that person is ultimately shortsighted and lacking any real financial knowledge. The govt is not going to be the reason why someone becomes wealthy, nor is it going to be the reason why someone else does not. As you accurately said Quasi, we have to take care of ourselves. I can't define liberalism but, like pornography, I know it when I see it. To me John Kerry embodies todays liberalist philosophy: "Because I'm a blue blood, Ivy League educated Bostonian, then I'm smarter than you and I know what's better for you than you do." In essence, he's a hypocrite.
A typical liberal says his faith is his guiding principal and that life begins at conception, yet he supports abortion and rationalizes it by saying he can't impose his 'faith' on others. Hey Senator, not murdering an unborne child shouldn't be a matter of faith. And if you can't risk a few votes by taking a stand against something your 'faith' should compel you to stand against, then you are just a pandering,gutless coward.
And like the typical liberal of today he'll gladly talk about the dwindling middle class and the growing poverty level (stats show otherwise). And he'll
blame tax cuts for the rich for all our economic ills in America. Yet he'll squirrell away millions of dollars in trusts and munis and treasuries so that he can avoid paying as much income taxes as possible (how does a 12.8% rate sound,hmm?).
And then he'll be a champion of the environment and finding alternate sources of fuel. And while he does this he will vacation in one of his mansions, or take a trip in his private jet to Aspen or Sun Valley for a little skiing. Or maybe he'll take a spin in his $500,000 powerboat while contemplating global warming.
Or maybe your typical lib will champion healthcare reform while her husband goes under the knife. And she'll be ever so grateful for their wonderful health insurance coverage ,unlike lots of americans who go without. Yet she won't say she's grateful for the tens of millions of dollars she and her husband have received from their book deals. I wonder if Hillary just stroked a check for the procedure or if she actually forked over her insurance card. I'm sure Bill carried his bible to the hospital too, as it must have been his faith that pulled him through. Did Monica give him that Bible?
Or maybe you will see your typical liberal candidate on the stump with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. And you'll feel all warm and fuzzy inside seeing the two races mix so harmoniously. And it won't matter that Jackson and Sharpton are two of the most morally corrupt and racist human beings in the public eye today. 'Hey Al, do you still hate Jews'? 'How about Joe Leiberman...is he your friend too'?
But there are so many more examples yet so little time.
