Any grapplers out there?

Been doing bjj for about a year and a half now. Wish I had started when I was younger though.

Yeah, been at it about 7 months now. Pretty much obsessed. I did my first tournament a few weeks ago and got 3rd in two divisions. One had 11 dudes, and the other had six.

Yes, agree on that for sure. But, TRT has certainly helped with all aspects. Recovery, explosiveness, strength, and mental focus.

I know how this will "sound", but though I don't officially train, I'm very knowledgable of the techniques and systems of bjj. I've been watching MMA from the beginning, not just watching but learning.

But I also listen to thousands of hours of Joe Rogan conversating/commentating, and 100s of hours of him hanging out with Eddie Bravo (10th Planet of course).

My friends and wife and I experiment with techniques, and if I wasn't constantly at the gym or Crossfit box, rolling would ABSOLUTELY, be my drug of choice.

I loosely follow the grappling/sub circle, when high profile guys like Josh Barnett, Bendo, Eddie Bravo, and a few of the Gracie's etc. are competing.

You'll eventually start training grappling/Bjj one of these days......once you've had enough crossfit and are ready to try something new. (I was a cross fitter for about four years).

^^^^this, and when you get bit by that bjj bug you'll wish you started sooner

Yeah man, I'm sure I will when I start winding down further down the road.

Only thing is, the only BJJ (I say bjj VERY loosely) place close to me is a "McDojo", one of those bullshit cookie cutter places, geared towards kids. I couldn't be serious or give my money to a place like that, or the people in it. I live outside of Dallas, and there's plenty of creditable places, but I'm not likely to travel or spend that money, anytime soon anyway, when I'm still deep in the high energy CF game, at a competitive box, right down the street from me.

I hear you on that one. Luckily, we have more of a garage style Bjj/MMA gym.,complete with an octagon! About six of us in the core group, with another 5-10 guys from the next town over that join in from time to time. Most of us are Bjj competitors, a few actually compete in pro and amateur MMA promotions.

Sweet. Yeah, I've always got my eyes and ears open for something like that to come along. Every now and then someone I'm close to will say something like "Hey man, one of my buddies is a black belt, and he/she's open to people interested in rolling", but it hasn't come to fruition yet. Hope it does eventually.

Just for the record (I have to!)... I would love Conor to win, and keep this fun hype train rolling, that's who I'd "want" to win.

However, if I'm betting MY MONEY, I'm going with Aldo.

And, I think Mendes beats Conor a GOOD 8 out of 10 times with a full camp.

I wouldn't be openly advertising which city your from my friend. But if your serious check out Alan Mohler jiu-jitsu. Very well respected

I've been training for just over 4 years. Missed 6 months from a torn ACL, but have been up and running pretty good since March/April.

I was doing cross fit that was led by a judo instructor and a lot of younger judo guys came there to get some extra strength beside their judo. After every training i would roll with them. Only the ground stuff, they would kill me if they would throw me. Anyway, i would do pretty good even with black belts, they were somewhat weaker and smaller than me. Really a great feeling, great cardio exercise. I wish i had jiujitsu where i live. Only judo unfortunatly, and i dont have the will to do judo because of the throwing drills that are not so good for me in my age, i feel that has to be drilled while you are a kid.

i trained judo with a friend once, the stand up is fun. Whenever we start from standing I always try to foot sweeps on the fly, sometimes they work sometimes the guy gets off balance and I can try something else or he pulls guard. Where do you live that there is no bjj??

For what it's worth I love to grapple with the wifey. She's real good. Knows when to tap ;)
I'm like a 7.5 degree black belt in bed jiu-jitsu. That's what yall mean right, bjj?

My sweet moves ain't real pretty but damn it's fun. Unfortunately no matter what I always end up tapping.

All over the place. Her hair, the alarm clock my captain planet limited edition pillow cases.

Yall are jealous

Bjj is great. I grappled for a few years until I popped my knee and ribs. I was trying to bodybuild and roll at the same time and it just too demanding. The extra body weight effected me negatively and I would try to force submititions rather then use proper teqnique every time. At this point in my life I really enjoy lifting more then anything else. But it's great, and its something that you don't forget. I may be rusty but Still able to take someone down and choke them out. Great art.
