Any hair removal products out there that work?

I'm sure most of us, at one time or another, have investigated hair-removal products so that our hard-earned muscle could be more prominently displayed. If you're like me, however, you haven't had much success. I'm interested in everyone's experiences with various products and if there are any preparations out there that Meso members swear by.

I'm not a hairy beast; I don't have back hair or furry shoulders. I do, however, have a fairly hairy chest. We're not talking Robin Williams-like fur, but it does otherwise obscure the pectorals. I've tried various products with mixed results.

Most notably, I've used the Sally Hansen line of hair removers. These worked quite well and produced little or no skin irritation. The only downside was that the hair stayed away for about as long as if it had been shaved. So, the positive was that I wasn't shaving the hair--thus, it wasn't growing back faster--but the negative was that I'd have to apply the stuff twice a week, which got expensive and very time-consuming.

I had my back waxed once, just to see what it'd be like. As mentioned, I don't have a hairy back, but there are a few back there, so I thought I'd try it out. The pain wasn't terrible, but my back broke out horrifically. Part of me wonders if enough pore-clearing agents were used by the salon before and after the waxing process. I'll never know unless I try it again.

Anyway, is there anything out there that you guys--and gals--find works best? Anything from waxing to Nair for Men to Sally Hansen to the stuff you see on informercials?

Any help and input is appreciated!

I went back as far as the search function would allow, and I saw a reference to something known as Magic Platinum. I've checked out the profile on Amazon.com and it looks interesting.

No question that the razor gives the best results. None of the products I've tried have made the skin as smooth or soft as after a nice shave. But long-term, I don't like the increased thickness and coarseness of the hair. Sure, I'll look good now, but I'll be a 55-year-old silverback gorilla if I keep dragging that blade across my body!

I've considerd laser for my arms but have never got around to it. I use an adjustable beard trimmer for my chest and legs and keep it very short, I only shave them during the hot months.........11

I own one of those as well and was thinking of doing that, also. I was hoping that the adjustable trimmer would not only keep the hair short, but would also thin it (much as the thinning shears do when you get the hair on your head cut) so that it wouldn't appear so thick.

I wonder what the majority of the professional guys do? A close examination of pictures of Arnold leads me to believe he waxed. Specifically, shots from his 1980 Olympia comeback show very fine, light hair on his body. If I recall correctly, waxing consistently over time will thin out the hair and discourage growth. Given Arnold's skin tone, hair color, and country of origin, I would doubt he is naturally so hair-free. Waxing, to me, seems like the most logical cause of his essentially hairless figure.
