Never been hunting, would love to give it a go sometime. One of my neighbors just bought an 80 acre ranch out my way. Plan on hunting some pig with him this fall.
I grew up eating ground hog/woodchucks...my grand father would shoot a few, clean them, cut out the scent glands and slow cook them in a dutch oven contraption back in the early 60s....similar to pulled pork....

Probably rifle, my neighbor is Russian and wants to hunt one with a knife, I think I'd rather have a gun personally

Also they have this thick piece of “armor” called a shield on their shoulders. Makes it harder to shoot an arrow through

I heard big bore meat is God awful. My buddy said you want less than a buck fifty or the meat is terrible, can't give it away
I believe it’s just the big boars. All that testosterone spoils the meat lol. I’ve heard the sows don’t taste nearly as bad
Also shot placement is helpful. When you shoot an animal they let out adrenaline. Adrenaline turns the meat rancid. So a shitty shot gives them longer time to die and put out more adrenaline.
My grandfather was from the blue ridge mountain area of Virginia and was a young man with a family during the depression...they ate all kinds of weird stuff...
I grew up on a working tuna boat, hate fishing and won’t eat fish. Well I don’t hate fishing but it’s not a activity that brings me much joy anymore but I won’t eat fish, Shellfish I’ll destroy.
