Any off shifters?

Well yeah anyone here working the off hours like second shift or third shift?

Reason I'm posting this I because I've been working second for over a year and a half and have been running into stretches where I lose focus and motivation due to various factors. Biggest draw back is the overtime since it comes from 11:30pm to as late as 4am. I need the OT so don't usually shy away but lately I've turned it down quite a bit of OT to stay on my current routine and not leave me dragging ass in the gym. Other issue I have is on heavy days or high volume days in the gym my body and mind are in a fog all night at work and it makes thing difficult professionally at times.

I've been contemplating switching over to a 24hr gym and hitting it when I get off instead of before work.

The concerns I have is meal timing and rest periods since the plan would be to be crashed out in bed within 45 minutes of walking out of the gym. Does anyone else work these shifts? When do you train? How do you time meals?

I used to but not currently. Meal timing is what you make it. No need to eat every few hours or any of that nonsense if you don't want to or can't. Just eat whenever you can while still getting your macros and calories in. And adjust the volume of your workouts to take into account he fatigue that's building up from your schedule.

Love working the night shifts for two reasons. I can wake up and go crush my workout with all the energy I have and night shifts at my work generally are slower so I get to play cards and read meso

I've read very little about intake times. Theoretically, if a person were to eat all their macros in 1 sitting, would there be any difference in effectiveness? If not, what's the deal with "EAT 6 TIMES A DAY BRUH" ?

I have no science behind this, but personal belief. Some people supposedly have done studies on it.... but idk their legitimacy.

Your body will absorb what it needs. There is no way you are going to crap out half your protein because you ate more than 30g in a sitting.

I would think that eating 1 massive meal a day would kill your insulin/let in sensitivy and skyrocket cortisol.

But the difference between eating 3 800 calorie meals and 6 400 calorie meals? Convenience.

What are your thoughts?

The way I think of it.... and I know that we as a species have evolved since the good ol' caveman days, but there's no way that a caveman killed a mammoth and broke it down into a few meals a day... they probably killed a mammoth or a Saber tooth and ate 4 or 5 times a week.
Not to.mention, in order to kill a fucking saber tooth tiger you need to be a damn good athlete.
Am I crazy in thinking this?

Ive been pretty steady at around 4 meals a day at 60p/50c on average consisting of whole cooked foods so that's not the biggest issue that's got me it the gym times. Going all out before work just make the nights unbearable at times and overtime almost impossible to wanna work. And some days I jut don't have shit for motivation until it's almost time to work and those are the days my intensity suffers on the bench.

Fuck it I will try the after work hours for gym time for 6 weeks. If it doesn't feel right I will try another angle.

I've been a 3rd shifter for 10 yrs. I haven't been back into lifting long, but works best for me is right after I get up. I've tried after I get home, but I just don't have the energy left to do it justice.

I work two jobs and only have Sunday off. I never really get more than 6 hours of sleep usually less.
My day job is Mon-Thurs 9am to 3pm.
So I workout all these days in the late afternoon with the exception of Thursday because I work my night job also. REALLY FUCKING LONG DAY!!

My night job is Thurs-Sat 6pm to 3am.
So I hit the gym earlier in the day.

So Thursday is an off day with the option of Sunday off as well.
Oh and I am always traveling with a protein shake and a backpack full of food when traveling to either job.

The deal with eating 6x a day is that the pros almost have to to get their ridiculously high caloric needs met. Can you imagine eating
5-6000cals in one meal everyday? I tried it for my maintenance at around 4100cals and I just felt too uncomfortable for hours after such a big meal. I can do two meals pretty easily. Normally I have between 3-4meals and a snack or two if still hungry.

Theoretically there really won't be much of a difference at all. Layne Norton believes that it's best for about 4meals a day so you get multiple protein synthesis spikes but that's his personal belief and yet to be shown conclusively in any human studies to my knowledge. The other thing is the longer you go between meals the larger he protein synthesis spike of the following meal which negates some or all of the need to get multiple spikes throughout the day.

On 3rd shift for 2 months now.

Eat when I can, train when I can, sleep when I can. It's sucks but you can only do what you can do.

Starts with sleep for me

I work first shift at my day job, but if we have a band mid-week i also work like 8-2 / 3... Fucks my whole next 2 days up, trying to play catch up with sleep

I went and signed up to anytime fitness (not many other choices). I'm gonna give it a couple months and if it seems like Working out after the shift improves my workouts on average I will sell off all of my home equipment and just stay signed up until I outgrow it.

Man I'm not sure what yalls 1st or 2nd shift is. I just got off my 7 days off and started my 4 nights back this weekend.

A lot of the times when I work on the ambulance I work either 24 hr, or 12 hr shifts. A lot of the time from 11 pm-11 am or 11-11. It's tough but I enjoy it. I have a 24 hr. Membership so that's nice
