Anyone Own A Hot Tub

i'm going to start work on my home gym in a couple weeks. i already have a couple good pieces and i'll be looking for more, but what i want most in the room is a hot tub. most of you know i busted up my back a couple years ago and i still get laid up every now and again, so the hot tub will be a nice addition.

i've started reseach and it's been tough to get solid info so far. as far as i can tell, there's no hot tub bible, no objective 3rd party source for information. i've seen marketing-driven fodder but nothing published by an independent lab, etc. i've read some tips on buying tubs, but they're general and sometimes misinformed or misguided.

anyone got a tub? if so, anyone know of a good source to hit up for research?

i was rear ended by a rig back in 2001. dude never saw my car. i had what was considered moderate problems at the time, only a couple herniated discs which i guess are only soft tissue damage. i do know that my back hasn't been the same since, threw it out a few weeks ago again with deadlifts, so i've taken my whole back routine out of my workouts for the time being. it gets better then i test it out again, and over do it every time. i think your probs sound worse, but i feel your pain bro. backs suck.

Do you want the hot tub outside or inside? I've had mine for around 10 years, and still running strong "jacuzzi" name brand.
Mine is set inside a deck. I keep up the regular maintenance and haven't looked back or regreted it.
the newer ones are even more effecient and have lights inside of them, movie screens, stereos and speakers.
Just get one with a good warranty, and keep it maintained.

i'll check out jacuzzi's, it's going to be an outside hot tub, set inside. thanks bro, i'm sure there's a reason why people call every hot tub a "jacuzzi".

First to market. Its the same as calling a photocopy a Xerox.

Anyway, if youre back is all messed up, maybe you could get your doc to prescribe the hot tub and you write it off as a medical expense (or have ins pay for it).

Good looking out Bob, I just remembered my sister in law paid for her hot tub that way, 100% ins.

I got rearended in early 90's as well. I was in my early 20's sitting at a stop light when out of nowhere BAM a 16yr old punk rearends me!! He must have been doing 30mph plus. Stupid sombitch

My car got crunched, I got whiplash, and after a couple trips to the hospital and being seen by a licensed MD(fucking doctors!! aRRGGHH "take 2 of these and call me in the morning, you will be fine") who didnt even Xray my back or neck.... All I got was some muscle relaxers at the time and some expensive emergency room bills.

Needless to say when the punkass's insurance offered 3k settlement I jumped on it. I was a starving college kid with no job at it seemed like a lot.

But now, 15 yrs later I am suffering...

Anytime I have to sit for long periods, bend over repetitively (wash/wax cars, mechanical repairs) or even go heavy in the gym it aches and aches and aches..

Sure there are muscle relaxers, ibuprofen tabs, hot tubs, etc that help a little bit. But if you want to be 100% totally relieved (at least for a few hours and feel GREAT in the process) have your Doc write a script for a MASSEUSE!!!

No drug in the world works the knots out, gets the swelling out, the pain, the aches, the tension like a massage therapist!!

I swear to GOD you feel like your a young kid all over again with no worries in the world!! its the best

Like I said, insurance (if the accident was covered) WILL pay for it. :)

** also, the massuse being 21, 105 pounds and hotter than shit doesnt hurt either :D she relaxes my back but tightens up another muscle, he, hee**

2nd best to ease the pain?? a nice ICE PACK for 15 minutes!!

Other than that, I have to live with it. My herniated discs (or whatever it is exactly I forget) is between my shoulder blades and there is NO surgery or anything to fix it. I will have this problem (and probably arthritis soon) for the rest of my life.

** I always thought of older men having bad backs when I was younger and lifting hard was a joke. Thought it was all their fault and if they would just eat right, excercise, and do strengthening movements they would be fine. Plus those huge guts most likely didnt help either. Even though my situation is different, I know feel their pain and dont joke about it anymore. I would give anything to make it the way it was.... Sometimes the pain is so unbearable I wish I was dead.

goto www.sundancespas.com They have what i consider to be the best line. I've had mine outside for 5 years and it runs great- and i live upstate ny. use it all the time in the winter...

thx stella i'll check them out as well. talked to my old man about medical deductions and hot tubs/massage etc. and I guess it's much more common than I thought. If you have a documented history of back issues I guess it's a viable deduction. I know I could definitely benefit from it.
