Athens GA, world capital of BBQ

BBQ pork ribs seasoned by a dry rub with lots of nutmeg and cayenne, cooked high and slow above a smoky fatwood fire, then slathered with plenty of peppery vinegar sauce highland Carolina-style, or sweet and hot as they do on the Georgia coast. Heap it high on a fresh-from-the-oven poppyseed buttermilk bun. Dish it up with bourbon-spiked baked beans, sizzlin' hush puppies and a mess of slaw. Hold the grits thanks. Gotta wash it down with a couple of Rolling Rocks.

As everyone agrees, the best Q in the world is found in the Carithers boys' BBQ joint at 2025 S. Milledge Ave. on the wrong side of Athens Georgia. Used to be the # 1 spot was Spring House BBQ on Broad St. by the Best Western until the untimely demise of the owner at the hands of professional hit men with great aim and no respect for Southern cooking.

I don't miss Cobb County or my ex-wife down there but I sure as hell miss my Q. Go You Hairy Bull Dogs!
