No letters nothing! IRS as of today cleaned out my savings acct $4500! Not one bit of fair warning, or an opportunity to set up a payment plan! The worst is that they charged me $25 more for a conveinience fee or some shit! Oh well at least I had a few k under the mattress. ;)

The same thing happened to my father when i was a kid,,, then they turned around and did it again a couple of months later and said that they didnt do it the first time.... Must be nice to have that kind of power and not have to answer to anyone.

I don't understand, are you saying you owed the $4500 from taxes and they just took the cash? That seems pretty f'ed to me....

Cash,,,they can take a lot more than that!

i had the same problem when i was in college, but it was for state taxes. When i was a freshman in college i was independent and claimed myself, and made a mistake filing my state returns. that was four years ago and and last year those cocksuckers sent me a letter saying they were going to garnish my wages for the amount of $2339. This number was for $179 that i owed from 3 years back. I had made a mistake and they hadn't notified me, so they send a bill 3 years later and i flipped out. I called my state senator every day for a month until someone talked to me. I told them i was a student and was being charged 2000% on an outstanding debt and i was going to go to the newspapers and the local news and anyone that would listen. they repealed the fees and i had to pay original amount. cocksuckers. fuck them all.

dam, you guys have me all nervous..I can just see this shit happening to me, I didn't bother to file state a couple years back because I moved and I only worked there 2 months..

I just had to PAY $2200 (1600 federal and 600 state) because I claimed 0 and EXEMPT on my taxes @ my last co-op job. I made $18,800 in six months. Apparently you can only claim exempt if you make $3500 or less in a year and if you're in college it doesn't matter. Needless to say I didn't see it coming and I had about $2500 left over from my job when I found out last month and now I am sooooo broke!!
Don't ever claim exempt.

OK here's what happened this morning when I called. So you son't pay your taxes due for 3 tax periods in my case 1997, 2000, and 2001. They go to your employer and bank and perform a levy, basically that means you have 25 days to come to an agreement or they take your cash.

Well I was abole to get my $4500 back, but at a payment plan of $100 for the next 60 months! Thant's a grand total of $6000 gentlemen, so i'm stuck trying to figure out what is more economical lin the long run? Pay now and save $1500 or go to grad school $4500 poorer.

Moral of the story don't fuck with the man, he's got the best shakedown racket in the US.

Another note when poaying your taxes pay with a money order, the reason the got my bank info was because I paid them 650 last month for the current tax period due! Then bam they've got your bank info, they even asked me if I had anymore accounts I would like to disclose. I didn't ask if my mattress counted! :D

I have to call bull shit; if you owed for 1997, 2000, 2001 you would have received a shoebox full of letters before they placed a levy. Admit it you just failed to respond. You ignored their repeated attempts to get you to pay.

You will be paying 5% interest on the outstanding balance as well as the failure to pay penalty, which will be 1/4% per month on the unpaid tax as long as you keep your installment agreement. The failure to pay penalty caps out at 25% of the unpaid tax. In short you will be paying approx 8% in int. and penalties as long as you keep your installment agreement. If you have any other debt with higher rates than that you will be better off to put your money toward them and keep the installment agreement.

That's why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I just started my business,so i don't know yet what i will save with writeoffs but my partner(kind of partner,we help out on each others jobs sometimes)made over $100,000 last year and only paid $12,000 in taxes. Well,he didn't pay it,he still owes it but that's his fault, because he doesn't do his taxes quarterly and doesn't save the money to pay them at the end of the year. I'm claiming my tools, van payments,gas,tolls,insurance... shit,i'm even thinking of claiming my cat as a dependent. The goverment always owed me money and they still do. I didn't file for taxes all 4 yrs in the Corp. If i wasn't so damn lazy,i'd get a copy of the W-2s for those years and get the money they owe me.

Manwhore, what years did you not file and claim your refund? You only have 3 years from the time the tax was due or from the time the tax was paid which ever is later to collect your refund.

Nothing annoys me worse than people not collecting the refund they are due. Get on the phone right now; call 1-800-829-1040 and have the IRS send you the W2 info for the relevant years. If you are too lazy to do the returns yourself PM me and we will work something out. Seriously, don't give the govt your money.
