Bench Press

Hello guys and gals......
Why is it when I'm benching heavy my delta hurt so much? I've been to doctors did MRI's nothings wrong. I've done different degrees on the bench and I still feel like I'm working delts more than my chest. Mind you I've been working out since my teens so I kinda think I know what I'm doing...lol
Help would very much be appreciated

Do you get any pain during the bench press? Describe the pain, what it feels like (sharp/dull/etc), when it happens, etc.

As far as delts, it's a press, delts will come into play during a bench press no matter what, your pecs are still being worked though.

Been having the same problem lately, mentioned it to the dr when I was there and said ac joint was inflamed from over use and suggested a couple weeks off from benching.

Yea pain only when benching. It's like the muscle is on fire under the skin.
I totally get what ur saying about they come into play just worried that my chest isn't getting the full work of the motion. I also don't get that muscle soreness that I love. It's the only body part that doesn't get sore. So aggravated!!

I mean are you like benching too high up on your chest or something and putting more stress on your delts?
Think that's exactly what my stupid ass was doing. I was trying to bring in the upper portion of my chest. But I did what you guys suggested with not being so high up under the bar and yesterday my chest was on fire. The tren and Decca came in as well and I was stole my entire workout. Pump was amazing......thanks guys

What's your occupation outside of the gym? Does it involve a considerable amount of overhead or horizontal shoulder activity?

What other lifting do you include OR combine on CHEST day?

How long is the interval bt chest and shoulder day?

Chances are you're OVERWORKING the chest as a means to an ends, making it "grow".

Finally if your "soreness" involves that area about the HIGH upper portion of the medial humerus, it could be due to pectoral tendonosis, a precursor to a "pec rupture"!

(The latter changes may be noted on MRI if they are looking for it)

Like doctor gym said. Do you work overhead a lot at your day job?
I was experiencing the same pain and ended up having to take a year off the gym. my shoulder seriously felt like a fire sort of pain.

You are most likely doing something wrong with your form or u were previously and it takes time to heal. I
Keep my arms at about a 45 degree angle from my side and I have not had a problem since.

I would not recommend doing shoulders on chest day at all, but especially if you're experiencing the pain u describe. And like Doctor Jim said. space chest day and shoulder day far apart as possible.

Incline bench press is most likely what is causing the pain. Keep your ars at a 45 degree angle on this workout also. May not be the right form for building musscle the best but it sure as hell helped when I was going through the same problem as you. also got a cortisone shot in my shoulder.

most likely the bersa sack in your shoulder in being damaged from over use and your shoulder in pinching and rubbing on nerves/ tendons. I'm not Doctor but that pretty much what I got out of it when I went through this. The shoulder is very complex and should be taken very seriously.
Good luck

Wrong @T_verde77 ..flat bench puts more strain on your shoulders as to incline ..I have shoulder issues from flat bench ...when I hit the incline no problems at all..

Like I said the shoulder is complex... Doesn't mean we had the same part of our shoulders injured. Inclined bench press hurt worse for me. Flat bench press does not hurt me at all and never has

Anyways. The point is mate for your shoulder problem. I would stay away from anything that agrivates it until it is better. that's just me. Burn through your shoulder if u choose to

Calling someone wrong because of how it feels for you is stupid on your part. With good form you can eliminate the possibility of any shoulder pain at all during flat bench. Unfortunately this isn't the case for incline bench as when you go down to your chest your shoulders rotate further then during flat bench and the increased ROM puts strain on the shoulder. I'm not saying one is better for the shoulders then the other cause it will depend on how good your form is for both but I can bench good weight on flat with excellent form and never have shoulders issues and I've dislocated both shoulders and have a wire holding one in and 2 cortisone shots in the other. My .02c

True.. although I read an article in men's health stating flat bench puts more strain on the shoulders then incline ....I wish I could remember which bodybuilder wrote that article

If you do perpendicular bench were your humerous is 90 degrees to your body then absolutely you'll fell pain it's not the natural position for your shoulder. Depending on arm length and forearm to upper arm ratio you should be between 45-60 degrees from your torso with your arms. If you've even use a slingshot it holds your arms in the perfect position down and up so even if you have terrible shoulder pain you can bench maximal loads.

I went from benching 270 ..to barley being able to get 185 off the bar ..feels like a horrible strain on my shoulders ..can't flat bench on my part any longer ...I do have long reach though

I definitely know what u mean man. my strength in my shoulders is finally starting to go up. I'd say my shoulders were ruined for a long time because I was not using proper form on the incline bench press. 90 degrees smh... and working overhead at work a good part of the day made it even worse... I'm just glad I don't feel that burn anymore. It's sucks being able to lift more but u can't because your shoulders
