I've been training for 2 years now.. my overall strength and mass is increasing except for my biceps that are lacking. I dont understand because i train them like a b*tch and they wont gain any decent strength. I was told by someone that i curl too high.. could this be a serious issue? He mentioned about losing the tension during my curls. I don't know if that could be it. I do standing barbell curls, preacher curls, standing dumbbell curls and seated partial barbell curls.. all for 4 sets of around 6..8..8..10.. Please give me suggestions, it would be very well appreciated, thanks.

You do way too much for your bis. Drop down to a max of two movements for no more than 3 sets each. For example:
Bar curls 3 sets of 8 reps
DB hammer curls 2 x 8

Then youre done, go home.

WOW!!! Thats it for bi's Bob?
I would think at least try to hit each area of the bi?
How long would you wait to hit the arms again?
Do you normally do tri's as well on the same day?

Thanks in advance,

Perp

Yes, thats it for bis. And yes, I do tris on the same day and in similar fashion.

How often depends on what type of program you do. If its a regular program, then once ever 5-7 days is fine. Personally, I think a more frequent qpproach of 2-3x/wk is better, though certain adjustments would have to be made.

My recommendation was more to pacify his "need" to train his bis. My actual recommendation would have been not to train them at all.

And which "areas" of the bicep are there? Trust me, you don't need anything more than BB curls and MAYBE hammer curls. Personally, I haven't trained my arms in over a year and they're still much larger than pretty much everybody's.

Short work out for the bi's is good. They get a ton or work if you are working your back hard and heavy. A study I read with untrained people showed no greater strenght or size gains by people with a day for arms over a group that used the push pull routine.

I love your responses Freddy. Short and simple but true. It's definitely not what he was probably hoping to hear though. Also deadlifts have made my biceps get a lot bigger because of the amount of stress they put on the forearms, which in turn leads to bigger biceps. As for an actual biceps movement, weighted chins with hands facing you or neutral are by far the best.

You need to squat more.

Yeah thats all good stuff too.

People just refuse to work hard. They're scared of barbells.

What Freddy, Bob and Grizzly said. Squat more, pull big weights, press big weights, do some chins for your vertical plane pulling movement and your arms should come along just fine.

Cheers,

G.
