Bork’s road to recovery

I am moving the exercise portion of my steroid cycle log here. The goal of my training and steroid cycle is to gain both fat and muscle to help recover from severe burns on my body.

The excess fat I’m storing will be used for debridement and skin grafts sometime this year if it’s determined to be necessary. I’m heavily pushing for the grafts because I do not like where I’m at, but if they can’t do it then then next best thing is continual stretching.

A considerable portion of my burn tissue was removed completely and “sewn” back together. Ick. This resulted in significant loss of lean muscle mass in my chest. In fact, prior to steroids I was 100% certain if I ever had gains, I’d have passive alien gains on my chest because I wasn’t sure I’d ever get that muscle back. However, per my exercise and cycle, it seems to be returning to relatively normal…

It took a long time to get back to somewhat normal, but I’ve successfully stretched my skin considerably since then.

However, significant contracture remains. Being ripped causes this scar to contract further and causes me discomfort. Enter steroids, which I know aren’t magical at all, but are helping with recovery. There are currently limits to what I can lift without causing contractural discomfort, but I have to keep pushing that boundary.

I have a legit prescription for oxandrolone and medium-high TRT (250mg), plus HGH. But why not get some gains too… As it stands, I’m taking 3x more test than prescribed and have yet to request the oxandrolone or HGH because I plan on having grafts soon. These will definitely be used following the reconstructive surgery, if I can get it, in November.

Stretching is slow, sometimes painful (but only in one spot as there are no more nerves on the majority of scar tissue) and takes up a lot of time. You might notice I spend an awful lot of time on only upper body exercises that seem lower in weight than a lot of people are used to. This is why. I’m working on slowly stretching out these scars per doctor recommendation.

Since starting my exercise routine (I did this before steroids), I’ve gained significant muscle mass naturally which has caused growth in my chest muscles (roughly 1 inch of chest muscle as of today), which I never thought I’d get back again… This growth is causing my skin to get somewhat tighter, BUT not uncomfortably so and it’s also providing passive stretching gains at the same time.

Plus I’m doing semi strongman training to get my strength back. I believe if I can get the contracture issue done away with, I’ll knock out several goals in one.

The combined fat and muscle gains, along with slow holding of reps is helping to continue to stretch my scar tissue, resulting in less discomfort while also giving me gains. I have a long way to go, but I’m working on it with the help of medical professionals. Covid fucked me up too, but it’s a drop in the bucket compared to this.

5 miles of cardio today. Pretty rough? An hour later I’m not feeling anything… may need to go further.

0.5 miles speed walking. Warmup before jogging.

1 mile fast. One minute break
2 miles fast. Two minutes break.
1 mile fast. One minute break.
0.61 miles fast. Done.

After DOMS, if they even show up, I should be able to go 7 miles.

24x25lb sandbag toss. 5ft test.
12x25lb sandbag toss. 30ft+ (Horizontal toss).
300lb sandbag pull, up steep hill for 15 ft. 75ft drag.

Very minimal effort to avoid pulling stuff.

Zero DOMS from 5+ miles of yesterday’s Cardio. Legs are very hard to exercise as they almost never get doms or tire out. Gonna hit it harder tomorrow. Maybe 7 miles.

Regular gym schedule resuming. Lost some strength gains due to too much rest after 3rd covid shot.

4x15 bar curls
4x10 benchpress
4x10 lat pulldown
4x10 seated low rows (curl)
4x10 leg press
4x10 shoulder press
4x1 deadlifts

Lat pulldown machine is 9ft high, but handle hangs 7ft high. Long reach, and very wide grip pulldown with long MAG grip clone. For extra difficulty, I have nothing to hold my legs in place.

4x10 shoulder press above^

This one was actually 1x5. Was the last exercise of the day and I said “fuck this” and tapped out. Ran out of time to edit it.

During each exercise session, I am drinking 80g of protein in a single quart of water, then extra water afterwards.

The protein water tastes great, but it can dry you out and cause severe constipation. If you are putting a scoop of creatine in your drink, you’ll be in big trouble without enough hydration.

Enter Nuun tablets or something similar. If you drop 3 of these in your quart of the water, and drink another 16oz with another tablet afterwards, it helps prevent significant water loss.

For me this is great because I sweat worse than anyone else.

Cycle Starting weight:

297lbs
32% BF
201.96 lbs of muscle mass (includes skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle mass)

Weekly weigh in (today)

314.2lbs
29.6% BF
222.45lbs of muscle mass

Difference:

+17.2lbs gain
-2.4% BF
+20.49lbs of lean mass gained (roughly)

Looks like the AI is severely reducing the water retention. I’ve basically lost 11lbs of water weight.

Ouch man, that sucks and hopefully with a good plastic surgeon you can get those burns repaired.

Subbed to your log and hopefully you can shut up the naysayers and haters lol.

To be fair, I wasn’t up front about this for a lot of reasons. If you looked at how I was doing this without realizing why, you might think I was a fucking idiot too!

I’ve got a lot to learn. I subscribe to other people’s training logs, watch a lot of YouTube videos, and participate here. I may not be perfect, but I’m trying and I think I’m doing okay.
