Hi All
I'm a long-time homebrewer but always did it the old school sealed vial/caulk gun way so not huge amounts but used to make enough for me and a few friends at the gym to keep us going.
I would like to start making larger amounts and go down the bottle top route, I have all the equipment ready including autoclave, media bottles, brake bleeder etc.
I had a few Qs:
1. I have read PVDF or PTFE is the way to go for bottle tops? Any specific brand?, I've been recommended med lab supplies but they seem to be sold out on the .22um ones and I am buying from the EU so unsure on shipping - does anyone know of any EU suppliers which may be easier?
2. Once I have the final product in the media bottle what are the best options for transferring to the autoclaved vials (not sealed so open top and I will crimp after)
- bottle top dispenser probably best - but expensive, ones I have seen are around $400-500 USD
- buy an open top cap and septa and then draw out using a 50ml syringe and the remove the needle and squirt 10ml into each vial (I am thinking of making 250ml or 500ml at a time)
- or simply pour from the media bottle into each vial (not the most sterile method and I don't have a laminar flow hood or class II MSC)
3. best place to buy labels? I usually get my raws from PPL and don't need to worry about putting labels on but wanted to start putting labels and holograms on to make things easier when I chuck them in my lock box but I see you need to buy in 1000 lots, I wanted to buy in 100s if possible as going to make around 8 different types of gear
4. what pressure is best on the brake bleeder? I'm thinking around 10psi would suffice to pull through a .22um PVDF filter?
Thanks for the help
