Bottle top filtering

hello all. I have a question and I’ve been reading and reading the threads. I find several different answers but nothing concrete. The question is around how many ml’s can you filter through a .22 bottle top filter before having to change to a new filter. My question pertains to the disposable bottletop filters. Thank you

I have only made 300ml gear with a 500ml bottle top (nalgene red).
I read somewhere, maybe here on meso, that many types of bottle top filter can not hold for more than 400ml, then it will be clogged. So it’s no meaning to use like a 1000ml filter.
Of course it depends of the thickess and so on.

Can someone confirm this?

Yes 500ml filter for 500ml solution then switch filter. But what i heard somewhere is that it will get clogged after 400ml.

I know someone who did 500 with a 500. Safflower oil not heated. Took a long while.

I’ve been reading that GSO can take forever and a day. I understand heating slightly helps but will it damage the membrane? Or are there certain ones that are rated for higher temps?

There's no answer
as it depends on how many particles the liquid has.

Gravity prefiltering helps extend filters life a bit
but use true lab grade filters and not just coffee ones.

For anything large scale
consider switching to Whatman Polycaps
and skip Zapcaps (or any bottletop filter).

What is the consensus on nylon vs pvfd filters? Which is better for speed and less pip etc? I know if you use eo or super solvents then pvfd over nylon. But say for just a straight forward brew with an 18/2 no eo t-cyp.
